银行支行行长竞职演讲稿范文thankyou,everybody.(applause.)allright.well,thankstomyfriend,lillyledbetter,notonlyforthatintroductionbutforfightingforasimpleprinciple:equalpayforequalwork.itsnotthatplicated.and,lilly,iassureyou,youremainthefaceoffairpay.(laughter.)peopledontwantmymugonthere.(laughter.)theywantyourface.aslillymentioned,shedidnotsetouttobeatrailblazer.shewasjustsomebodywhowaswakingupeveryday,goingtowork,doingherjobthebestthatshecould.andthenoneday,shefindsout,afteryears,thatsheearnedlessthanhermalecolleaguesfordoingthesamejob.iwanttomakethatpointagain.(laughter.)doingthesamejob.sometimeswhenyou-whenwediscussthisissueoffairpay,equalpayforequalwork,andthepaygapbetweenmenandwomen,youllhearallsortsofexcusesabout,well,theyrechild-bearing,andtheyrechoosingtodothis,andtheyrethisandtheyrethatandtheother.shewasdoingthesamejob-probablydoingbetter.(laughterandapplause.)samejob.workingjustashard,probablyputtinginmorehours.butshewasgettingsystematicallypaidless.andsoshesetouttomakesurethiscountryliveduptoitsfounding,theideathatallofusarecreatedequal.andwhenthecourtsdidntanswerhercall,congressdid.thefirsttimelillyandistoodtogetherinthisroomwasmytenthdayinoffice,andthatswhenwesignedthelillyledbetterfairpayact.(applause.)firstbillisignedintolaw.andsomeoftheleaderswhohelpedmakethathappenareheretoday,includingleaderpelosiandsenatormikulskiandcongresswomandelauro.(applause.)iwanttothankallthemembersofcongressandallthestatelegislatorswhoarehereandalltheadvocateswhoarehere,becauseyouallcontributedtothateffort.andiwanttogiveaspecialthankstothemembersofthenationalequalpaytaskforce,whovedoneoutstandingworktomakeworkplacesacrossamericamorefair.wereherebecausetodayisequalpayday.(applause.)equalpayday.anditsnicetohaveaday,butitsevenbettertohaveequalpay.(applause.)andourjobisnotfinishedyet.equalpaydaymeansthatawomanhastoworkaboutthisfarintoXXtoearnwhatamanearnedinXX.thinkaboutthat.awomanhasgottoworkaboutthreemoremonthsinordertogetwhatamangotbecauseshespaidless.thatsnotfair.thatslikeaddinganextrasixmilestoamarathon.(laughter.)itsnotright.audiencemember:aintright.thepresident:aintright.(laughter.)itsnotrightanditaintright.(laughter.)americashouldbealevelplayingfield,afairraceforeverybody-aplacewhereanybodywhoswillingtoworkhardhasachancetogetahead.andrestoringthatopportunityforeveryamerican-menandwomen-hastobeadrivingfocusforourcountry.now,thegoodnewsistodayoureconomyisgrowing;businesseshavecreatedalmost9millionnewjobsoverthepastfouryears.morethan7millionamericanshavesignedupforhealthcarecoverageundertheaffordablecareact.(applause.)thatsagoodthing,too.iknowitsequalpaydayandnotobamacareday-(laughter)-butidowanttopointoutthattheaffordablecareactguaranteesfreepreventivecare,likemammogramsandcontraceptivecare,fortensofmillionsofwomen,andendsthedayswhenyoucouldbechargedmorejustforbeingawomanwhenitestoyourhealthinsurance.(applause.)andthatstrueforeverybody.(applause.)thatsjustonemoreplacewherethingswerenotfair.welltalkaboutdrycleanersnext,right-(laughter)-becauseiknowthat-idontknowwhyitcostsmoreformichellesblousethanmyshirt.(laughter.)butwevegottomakesurethatamericaworksforeverybody.anybodywhoiswillingtoworkhard,theyshouldbeabletogetahead.andwevegottobuildaneconomythatworksforeverybody,notjustthoseatthetop.restoringopportunityforallhastobeourpriority.thatswhatamericaisabout.itdoesntmatterwhereyoustartedoff,whatyoulooklike-youworkhard,youtakeresponsibility,youmaketheeffort,youshouldbeabletogetahead.andwevegottofightforanopportunityagenda,whichmeansmoregoodjobsthatpaygoodwages,andtrainingamericanstomakesurethattheycanfillthosejobs,andguaranteeingeverychildaworld-classeducation,andmakingsuretheeconomyrewardshardworkforeverysingleamerican.andpartofthatisfightingforfairpayforwomen-becausewhenwomensueed,americasueeds.(applause.)whenwomensueed,americasueeds.itstrue.ibelievethat.(applause.)itstrue.itstrue.itstrue.now,heresthechallenge:today,theaveragefull-timeworkingwomanearnsjust77centsforeverydollaramanearns;forafricanamericanwomen,latinas,itsevenless.andinXX,thatsanembarrassment.itiswrong.andthisisnotjustanissueoffairness.itsalsoafamilyissueandaneconomicissue,becausewomenmakeupabouthalfofourworkforceandtheyreincreasinglythebreadwinnersforawholelotoffamiliesoutthere.sowhentheymakelessmoney,itmeanslessmoneyforgas,lessmoneyforgroceries,lessmoneyforchildcare,lessmoneyforcollegetuition,lessmoneyisgoingintoretirementsavings.anditsallbadforbusiness,becauseoureconomydependsoncustomersoutthere,andwhencustomershavelessmoney,whenhardworkingwomendonthavetheresources,thatsaproblem.whenbusinessesloseterrificwomentalentbecausetheyrefedupwithunfairpolicies,thatsbadforbusiness.theyloseoutonthecontributionsthatthosewomencouldbemaking.whenanyofourcitizenscantfulfilltheirpotentialforreasonsthathavenothingtodowiththeirtalentortheircharacterortheirworkethic,werenotlivinguptoourfoundingvalues.wedonthavesecond-classcitizensinthiscountry-andcertainlynotintheworkplace.so,tomorrow,thesenatehasthechancetostartmakingthisrightbypassingabillthatlillyalreadyalludedto-thepaycheckfairnessact.(applause.)theyvegotachancetodotherightthing.anditwouldputsensiblerulesintoplace,likemakingsureemployeeswhodiscusstheirsalariesdontfaceretaliationbytheiremployers.andhereswhythisisimportant.therearewomenheretodaywhoworkedinofficeswhereitwasagainsttherulesforemployeestodiscusssalarieswithoneanother.andbecauseofthat,theydidntknowtheywerebeingpaidlessthanmen-justlikelillydidntknow-fordoingtheexactsamework.forsome,itwasyearsbeforetheyfoundout.andeventhen,itonlyhappenedbecauseamanageraidentallyletitslipor,asinlillyscase,asympathetio-workerquietlypassedanote.sheonlyfoundoutsheearnedlessthanhermalecolleaguesfordoingthesameworkbecausesomebodyleftananonymousnote.wecantleavethattochance.andoverthecourseoflillyscareer,shelostmorethan$200,000insalary,evenmoreinpensionandsocialsecuritybenefits-bothofwhicharepeggedtosalary-simplybecauseshewasawoman.andlilly,andsomeoftheotherwomenhere,decideditwaswrong,setouttofixit.theywenttotheirbosses;theyaskedforaraise.thatdidntwork.theyturnedtothelaw;theyfiledsuit.andforsome,foryearsafterwaitingandpersistingtheyfinallygotsomejustice.well,tomorrow,thesenatecouldpaytributetotheircouragebyvotingyesforpaycheckfairness.(applause.)thisshouldnotbeahardproposition.thisshouldnotbethatplicated.(applause.)andsofar,republicansincongresshavebeengumminguptheworks.theyvebeenblockingprogressonthisissue,andofcourseotherissuesthatwouldhelpwiththeeconomicrecoveryandhelpusgrowfaster.butwedonthavetoaeptthat.america,youdonthavetositstill.youcanmakesurethatyoureputtingsomepressureonmembersofcongressaboutthisissue.andidontcarewhetheryoureademocratorarepublican.ifyoureavoter-ifyouvegotadaughter,yougotasister,yougotamom-iknowyougotamom-(laughter)-thisissomethingyoushouldcareabout.andimnotgoingtostandstilleither.sointhisyearofactioniveusedmyexecutiveauthoritywhenevericouldtocreateopportunityformoreamericans.andtoday,imgoingtotakeaction-executiveaction-tomakeiteasierforworkingwomentoearnfairpay.sofirst,imgoingtosignanexecutiveordertocreatemorepaytransparencybyprohibitingfederalcontractorsfromretaliatingagainstemployeeswhodiscusstheirpaywitheachother.(applause.)paysecrecyfostersdiscriminationandweshouldnottolerateit-notinfederalcontractingoranywhereelse.second,imsigningapresidentialmemorandumdirectingthedepartmentoflaborandouroutstandingsecretaryoflabor,tomperez,torequirefederalcontractorstoprovidedataabouttheiremployeepensationsopaydiscriminationcanbespottedmoreeasily.now,iwanttobeclear:therearegreatemployersouttherewhodotherightthing.thereareplentyofemployersouttherewhoareabsolutelycertainthattheresnopaydiscriminationhappeningintheiroffices.butthensometimeswhenthedataislaidout,itpaintsadifferentpicture.manytimestheythendoeverythingtheycantofixtheproblem,andsowewanttoencouragethemtofixtheseproblemsiftheyexistbymakingsurethatthedataisoutthere.soeverybodywhocaresaboutthisshouldpayattentiontohowthesenatevotestomorrowonthispaycheckfairnessact,becausethemajorityofsenatorssupportthisbill,buttwoyearsago,aminorityofsenaterepublicansblockeditfromgettingavote.evenworse,somementatorsareouttheresayingthatthepaygapdoesntevenexist.theysayitsamyth.butitsnotamyth;itsmath.(laughterandapplause.)youcanlookatthepaychecks.youcanlookatthestubs.(applause.)imean,lillyledbetterdidntjustmakethisup.(laughter.)thecourt,whenitlookedatthedocuments,said,yep,youvebeengettingpaidlessfordoingthesamejob.itsjustthecourtthensaid,youknow,itsbeen-aslillysaid-itsbeenhappeningsolong,youcantdoanythingaboutitanymore-whichmadenosenseandthatswhywehadtosignanotherbill.itsbasicmaththataddsuptorealmoney.itmakesarealdifferenceforalotofamericanswhoareworkinghardtosupporttheirfamilies.andofcourse,thefactthatwevegotsomeresistancefromsomefolksonthisissueuponcapitolhilljustfitswiththislargerproblem,thisvisionthatthecongressionalrepublicansseemtobecontinuallyembracing-thisnotionthat,youknowwhat,yourejustonyourown,nomatterhowunfairthingsare.youseeitintheirbudget.thebudgettherepublicansincongressjustputforwardlastweek,itslikeabadrerun.itwouldgivemassivetaxcutstohouseholdsmakingmorethanamilliondollarsayear,forcedeepcutstothingsthatactuallyhelpworkingfamilieslikeearlyeducationandcollegegrantsandjobtraining.and,ofcourse,itincludesthatnovelideaofrepealingtheaffordablecareact.(laughter.)fiftiethtimetheyvetriedthat-whichwouldmeanthemorethan7millionamericanswhovedoheresponsiblethingandsigneduptobuyhealthinsurance,theydlosetheirhealthinsurance;andthe3millionyoungadultswhovestayedontheirparentsplan,theydnolongerhavethatavailable;takeusbacktothedayswheninsurerscouldchargewomenmorejustforbeingawoman.onminimumwage,threeoutoffouramericanssupportraisingtheminimumwage.usuallywhenthreeoutoffouramericanssupportsomething,membersofcongressarerightthere.(laughter.)andyethere,republicansincongressaredeadsetagainstit,blockingapayraisefortensofmillionsofamericans-amajorityofthemwomen.thisisntjustabouttreatingwomenfairly.thisisaboutrepublicansseeminglyopposinganyeffortstoeventheplayingfieldforworkingfamilies.andiwasupinmichiganlastweekandijustasked-idontunderstandfullythetheorybehindthis.idontknowwhyyouwouldresisttheideathatwomenshouldbepaidthesameasmen,andthendenythatthatsnotalwayshappeningoutthere.ifrepublicansincongresswanttoprovemewrong,iftheywanttoshowthatthey,infact,docareaboutwomenbeingpaidthesameasmen,thenshowme.theycanstarttomorrow.theycanjoinusinthis,the21stcentury,andvoteyesonthepaycheckfairnessact.(applause.)voteyes.andifanybodyiswatchingorlistening,ifyoucareaboutthisissue,thenletyoursenatorsknowwhereyoustand-becauseamericadeservesequalpayforequalwork.thisisnotsomethingweregoingtoachieveinaday.theresgoingtobealotofstuffthatwevegottodotoclosethepaygap.wegottomakeitpossibleformorewomentoenterhigh-payingfieldsthatupuntilnowhavebeendominatedbymen,likeengineeringandputerscience.womenholdlessthan6percentofourcountrysmercialpatents-thatsnotgoodenough.weneedmoreparentsandhighschoolteachersandcollegeprofessorsencouraginggirlsandwomentostudymathandscience.weneedmorebusinessestomakegenderdiversityaprioritywhentheyhireandwhentheypromote.fewerthanfivepercentoffortune500panieshavewomenatthehelm.ithinkwedallagreethatweneedmorewomenincongress.(applause.)fewerthan20percentofcongressionalseatsareheldbywomen.clearly,congresswouldgetmoredoneiftheratiowas-(laughter)-evenedoutalittlebit.sowevegottoworkonthat.andweveallgottodomoretomakeourworkplacesmorewelingtowomen.be
