Background objectives and significance of senior project 1 1 Background of senior project Bridge construction does not only occupy 10 20 of total cost of road construction but also is the throat of traffic transportation During decades after 1978 within the push of two strategic objectives which focus on developing energy and traffic the height of Chinese road and bridge building have reached a new point China has been always learning following and importing new materials new technologies and new workmanships and have built many complex long span bridges However within the development of science technologies and the improvement of economic and culture level higher demands are needed for bridge buildings Even through Chinese bridge building career has got great progress there s still a big distance to keep up with developed countries In order to achieve the goal that our country can build superlative bridges independently as bridge works we should insist innovation emphasize total quality and improve bridge aesthetics attainment 1 2 Objectives of senior project proposal Deepen review consolidate and broaden the basic professional knowledge what we have learned Improve the ability to analysis practical issue and the ability to apply theories to practical case Learn how to get effective information for deliverables try to be familiar with design steps and ger ready for future job 1 3 Significance of senior project There are kinds of complex landforms in China and in many areas mountain is the symbol of local landform feature As the result it hinders the economy development and it brings trouble to the traffic and transportation In order to benefit the people and to push the economy development analysis and design of Shichuan bridge for a mountain area is taken as the graduate design s subject which iss worth of studying 2 Raw Data and Preliminary Study 毕业设计 论文 报告纸 共 9 页 第 3 页 2 1 Raw Data The topographic data is shown in the following The requirement of the length of bridge span is 256 500m In some zones the value between designed height and ground height is more than 40m And geology survey shows that there is a layer of clay which is as thick as 4 35m and it s weakened quartzite under the clay layer The bridge has 8 driving lanes and the designed load of the bridge is Highway Class I Highway I Fig 2 1 Topography of the designed bridge 2 2 Preliminary Study According to the span and the terrain and geology condition three design schemes are proposed as the followings Scheme I Arch bridge 毕业设计 论文 报告纸 共 9 页 第 4 页 Fig 2 2 Scheme I Arch bridge Advantage The main bearing structure of arch bridge is arch rib or arch ring Under vertical stress abutments are pushed horizontally The horizontal force resists internal moment in the arch rib or arch ring Compared with common continuous bridge that has the same span the moment and displacement are much smaller Arch bridge can have longer span and the configuration is artistic Arch bridge is a reasonable and economical choice in proper conditions Disadvantage Superstructure of most arch bridge has a large self weight Since horizontal force exists the quantity of substructure increases and the requirement of geology conditions is high Complex construction procedure long construction period In most cases mechanized and industrialized construction method can t be used In order to prevent that single span s failure lead to the collapse of the whole bridge complex structure measures are needed or cost of construction increases because of setting abutments which can resist horizontal pushing forces Scheme II Suspension bridge 毕业设计 论文 报告纸 共 9 页 第 5 页 The bearing structures of traditional suspension bridge are the suspension cable hung on the tower Under the action of vertical force huge anchors are built behind abutments since suspenders give anchors Advantage Nowadays wire rope weaved by high strength steel wires are widely used so that its tension performance advantage is excavated to the maximum As the result its self weight is light and it can cross larger span in lower building height than other types of bridges What s more steel wire rope is easy to transport and structural elements is light which is convenient to install Disadvantage Design of structure and workmanships of construction are complex and economical efficiency is worse Its span can t beyond upper bound 毕业设计 论文 报告纸 共 9 页 第 6 页 Compared with other bridge system larger deformation and vibration occur in the bridge under vehicles and wind loads because of light self weight of suspension bridge and slenderness of structure Scheme III Cable stayed bridge Advantage During more than half a century cable stayed bridge is the bridge system pregnant with fantastic and creative idea And it has widely good adaptability Generally to bridges whose spans are from 200m to700m cable stayed bridge has technically and economically competitive ability Cable stayed bridge consists of cable pylon and girder High strength steel cable sling the girder from different points and transport the permanent load and vehicle load of the girder to the pylon and finally loads act on the foundation through the bottom of the pylon So long span girder works as a continuous beam with multi points elastic supports which decreases the dimension of girder section and the self weight What s more it saves construction materials and increases the span capacity Besides compared with suspension bridge cable stayed bridge has larger structure stiffness in another words structural deformation is smaller under the action of loads Cable stayed bridge has the better ability to resist wind vibration than suspension bridge 毕业设计 论文 报告纸 共 9 页 第 7 页 Disadvantage With the increasing of cable stayed bridge span difficulties that the tower is too high and the cable is too long are confronted with which relate to problems about dynamic stability and technical problems caused by that girder bears huge compression and that cable s deflection increases Besides cable is the lifeline of the bridge In some cases when cables are corroded all of cables should be replaced So ensuring the service life is an important issue After comparing three schemes scheme III will be adopted in this project 2 2 Construction procedure Tower construction Girder and cable construction 2 3 Calculate phase According to the finite element theory build the bridge model and calculate the section stress of tower girder and cables 2 4 Check phase Check the design based on the current codes 3 Main Deliverables 1 Final Report After completion of the tasks above a final report should be submitted to summarize 毕业设计 论文 报告纸 共 9 页 第 8 页 the works which you have done during the senior project The final report may include the following sections project background main objectives design description main computation results and other relevant aspects 2 Electronic Documents All analysis results during the senior project should be saved and submitted as main deliverables at the time of your graduations All figures charts and EXCEL figures and ppt for your oral defense should be turned in at the same time 3 Engineering Drawings Both printed and electronic versions of the engineering drawings should be submitted before your graduation 4 Bi week memo The bi week memo recording your process of work should be submitted
