Teaching design of Reading (Unit Two, 9A)Colours and your moodsGood afternoon, ladies and gentlemen! Its my honor to stand here and share my design with you. My teaching design includes the following four parts. Now, I will begin with Part I, teaching analysis. First, I want to talk about my understanding of this period.Part I Teaching analysis1.1 Teaching material analysisThis is the second period of unit 2, colour. The first three units of this book belong to module 1, which talks about Getting along with others. Unit 1 talks about star signs. Unit 2 talks about colour. Teenage problems is the topic of Unit 3. Star signs can decide peoples characteristics while colours affect peoples moods. The two units both have sth to do with peoples characteristics. This period colours and your moods mainly talks about the relationship between colours and moods. What the two units talk about may not always be true, but they can be a reference to help teenagers solve problems in their daily life. So I think this period plays a role as developed learning to know about people as well as a help to solve teenage problems in unit 3.1.2 Teaching object analysisThe Grade 8 Ss have learned the seven different colours in the first period of unit 2. But most of them have no idea about the relationship between colours and peoples moods. They may be curious to know what colours can do and what characteristics they represent. I believe they will be interested and have much to say about colours in class.1.3 Teaching environment analysisI design the teaching of this period based on the “Activity-sheet lead in approach”. In this way, I want to make Ss carry on the learning process of “self-study” “group-cooperation” and “exploration” successfully. Meanwhile, with the help of multi media, I try to make the teaching process visual, lively, interesting and colorful to arouse Ss interest in learning English and make the class more effective. Now, I come to Part II, Teaching aims. Part II Teaching aims2.1 Knowledge aims First, knowledge aims. By learning this period, I hope the Ss will get to know what the four basic types of colours represent and how they affect people; of course, to learn some new words and phrases is the other knowledge aim.To get to know what the four basic types of colours represent and how they affect people; To learn some new words and phrases.2.2 Ability aimsSecond, ability aims. After knowing sth about colours, the Ss must be able to use the knowledge to solve problems in daily life such as choosing the proper colours for different situations and try to describe a persons colours and characteristics with new words and phrases. To choose the proper colours for different situations; To describe a persons colours and characteristics with new words and phrases. 2.3 Emotion aimsThird, what the article says about the relationship between colours and moods may not always be true, but I want my Ss to have the ability to know themselves and people better after this class. To help Ss know themselves and people better by colours.Next, Part III, Teaching emphasis and difficulties.Part III Teaching emphasis and difficulties3.1 Teaching emphasisTo help Ss command the many new words and expressions; To make Ss use what they learn about colour to express their ideas.3.2 Teaching difficultiesTo make Ss use what they learn about colour to express their ideas. To help Ss command the many new words and expressions and make them use what they learn about colours to express their ideas is the emphasis of this period, in which the later one may be the teaching difficulty of this period.Part IV Teaching methods1. Task-based Approach2. Cooperative ApproachDuring my teaching, I use the task-based approach and the cooperative approach to make Ss learn actively and autonomously. Part V Teaching proceduresNow, Part V, Teaching procedures. My procedures are mainly made up with five steps. Lead-in, Pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading.First, lead-inIn this step, I design two activities to help Ss with their warm-up. One is Guessing the meanings. The other is Do you know”? during the process of guessing the meanings of the sentences, Ss will be curious about different meanings of colours and by asking the Ss some questions about colors which they are familiar with to present two new words represent and mood. I choose the picture of hospitals to talk about because I think this will be an easy way to arouse Ss interest and curiosity about the relationship between colours and moods.Step One Lead-inActivity One Guess the meanings.Im a green hand here. But practice makes perfect, Im sure I can do better later.Sometimes a white lie is necessary when you dont want to hurt others. The man is green-eyed to see so much money.Linda is blue today because she lost her favourite hair clips.Activity Two Do you know?T: Click to present some pictures of hospitals, doctors and nurses.Q:Where is it? What colour are the walls? What colour are the doctors uniforms? What about the nurses? Why dont they wear black uniforms? (Ss express their ideas)T: Well, we know people born under different star signs have different characteristics. Do you know that different colours are also signs of different characteristics? They can change the way we feel. (New words: represent, mood)Step Two Pre-readingThree kinds of activities are designed in this procedure to help Ss have a general recognition of the passage. By reading and finding the certain new words, Ss can understand them better with the help of options. By the way, many new words appear in the passage, I only choose some of them to talk about when necessary. We can ignore some if the words are not the obstacles for Ss to understand.Activity OneRead silentlyQ: How many kinds of colours are talked about in the passage? What are they?Activity Two Listen and fill in the blanksKinds of coloursWhat are they?Calm coloursbluewhiteWarm coloursorangeyellowEnergetic coloursgreenStrong coloursredActivity Three New words understanding Part B1Find and circle the words in the passage and then choose the right meanings.mood sleepy represent relaxed stressed satisfied cheer remindStep Three While-reading The colours are divided into four types in the passage.
