It turns out that there are always so many people here, including local residents and plenty of tourists. Though its faade seems to be small, youll be surprised when you actually go in there. This zone is full of winding paths. Its kind of living style in old shanghai that people lived in a large neighborhood called Longtang. Residents here used to gather outside the house on summer nights to keep cool and chat. And the lanes inside was used for communications between neighbors, which have been transformed to galleries of art nowadays. On both sides are mostly shops selling artware, such as paintings, photographs and specially designed clothes. Besides, cafes and bars are all over here as well. Both traditional and exotic snacks can be found in order to cater for different people. Varieties of beers and wines are offered at the bars. When it starts to get dark, the nightlife is just beginning. People working around prefer to have a rest here after a busy day, where they can enjoy a free and comfortable time with friends. However, its hard for me not to think about what changes Tianzifang into an art zone like what it is now. Reasons are various from the government programs to its own development. There is one thing out of them that couldnt be ignored that is culture integration. In the 1990s, this area could only be described as a bazaar that was dusty and messy. Not until some artists moved their workshops to this area when the big change was triggered. Famous artists like Chen Yifei began to work here, which brought an atmosphere of art to this place as well as raised its fame. A five-story factory has been transformed into an urban industrial building. There are flags of more than ten countries or regions hanging up in front of its gate. It seems just like a tiny worldwide art exhibition. Chinese and western cultures collide and blend here, while distributing its light and heat.
