Students may become involved in activities that are dangerous to themselves,or others, due to peer pressure.Drugs, including alcohol, are a major part of peer pressure. A research institute reports that about 30 percent of the teenagers are offered drugs in middle and high schools. The majority of teens consume their first drink of alcohol at the age of 13.The National Household Survey on drug use and health from the Department of Health and Human Services informs the public that 74.3 percent of the high school students have tried alcohol. A large percentage of those who drink alcohol are also smokers. The American Lung Association points out that about 3.1 million adolescents are smokers in the US. Almost 25 percent of teens between 17 and 18 are regular smokers.Peer pressure can affect the behavior, clothing choice, music and movie choice and even the personality. Academics can also be affected by peer influence. People can be affected by these factors and remain completely unaware of the changes in their lifestyle, but some people do realize when they are being pressured. Just by simply spending time with others,a person can become more like them.“If you are being pressured to do things that you know are wrong,” Sheats,a senior, said,“you should get out of that situation and tell a trusted adult.” For people to avoid becoming a victim of peer pressure, they must make their own decisions. Judgment of a situation based on ones morals is very important in peer pressure situations.“People,” Sheats added,“should follow their own hearts.”21.The passage is mainly about_.Apeer influence Bteenagers lifestylesCacademic pressure Dmoral judgment22.According to the second paragraph,_.Ateen smokers are more than teen alcoholicsBalmost a quarter of teens are regular smokersCmost teens begin to try alcohol at the age of 13Dabout 30% of teenagers try drugs in middle school23.It can be inferred from the passage that_.Ano one knows they are being influenced by their friendsBteenagers tend to spend more time with their friendsCpeople are more easily influenced by those around themDpeer pressure affects peoples behavior rather than academics24.Sheats suggests when being pressured to do something awful,we teens should_.Aask our peers for help Bkeep it a secret from our parentsCaccept our peers decisions Dmake decisions on our own moralsBA man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he keeps. One should always live in the best company, whether it is of books or of men. A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the most patient and cheerful of companions. It always receives us with the same kindness, amusing and instructing us in youth, and comforting us in age.Men often discover their similarity to each other by the common love they have for a book just as two people sometimes discover a friend by the admiration which both entertain for a third. There is an old proverb,“Love me,love my dog.” But there is more wisdom in this:“Love me,love my book.” The book is a truer and higher bond (纽带) of union. Men can think, feel, and sympathize with each other through their favorite author. They live in him together, and he in them.A good book is often the best container of a life preserving the best that life could think out,for the world of a mans life is,for the most part, the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasures of good words and the golden thoughts, which become our steady companions and comforters.Books are by far the most lasting products of human effort. Temples and statues decay (腐朽),but good books survive. Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed through their authors minds ages ago.The great and good do not die, even in this world. Preserved in books, their spirits walked abroad. The book is a living voice .It is an intellect (智者) to which one still listens.25The writer introduces the topic of the passage by_.Adescribing life experience of great writersBtelling his own story of reading good booksCpresenting the best thoughts in good booksDcomparing good books to good friends in life26What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 mean?AReaders feel sympathy for the author.BReaders live together with the author.CReaders and the author share the same feeling.DReaders are the authors companions and comforters.27Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?AWe can learn about the great and good through books.BThe most important part of a mans life is his treasures.CGood books help as to know about their authors friends.DBooks are often regarded as best containers in our life.28The passage mainly tells us that _.Aone should have some good friendsBone should read as many books as possible.Cone should keep company with good booksDbooks are the most lasting products of human effort第一部分听力答案1.A2.B3.C4.A5.C6.A7.B8.C9A10.C11.C12.A13.C14.C15.C16.A17A18.C19.A20.C 阅读21-24 ACCD 25-28 DCAC 29. 推理判断题。根据第三段的最后一句可推知,人们更容易受周围人的影响。30. 主旨大意题。看文章首尾,或各段的开头,找出主题句,或通过浏览全文,抓住关键字眼,把握文章主旨。31. strategy 32. military 33. concern 34. achievement 35. embarrassment 36. ministry 37. contribution 38. account 39. adjust/adapt 40.extend 41. ensure 42. hesitate 43.forgive 44. injure 45.criticise 46.donate 47. annoyed 48.generous 49 .frank 50.major51. independent 52. sensitive 53. effective 54.significant 55. help out 56. let down 57. let off steam 58.loose lips sink ships 59. pull ones weight 60.
