A Survey Of Native and Non-Native English Teachers Teaching Effect From English Major StudentsHangzhou Dianzi Electric University,Name:Number:,1.1 Selected Topic And Meaning With the development of globalization, the communication between domestic and international becomes more frequent. English is an essential communication tool. Then more and more foreign teachers enter into Chinese classrooms. And since the 1990 s, the native English teachers make more contribution to English education, a comparative study between Native English speaker teachers and Non-native English teachers have become a hot spot in the research of the TESOL. 1.2 advantages of non-native English teachers: 1) to provide learner model; 2) better to impact the language learning strategies; 3) to offer more English information; 4) better to prevent the language errors; 5) be more sensitive to students, 6) have a common language with students. 1.3 Other opinionsHowever there are some studies showing that (Zhang Xiaoqian5,2001) the foreign teachers teaching model not only had a direct help to Chinese students English learning but also had a certain influence on students world outlook and values.,1.Introduction,2. Research Method,3.1 Research Aim It attempts to use questionnaire, data analysis to make a survey of the perspectives between foreign English teachers and Chinese English teachers from non-English major students views. Furthermore, this paper aims to investigate well as to manage foreign teachers. 3.2 ParticipatorsThe Foreign Language Department of the third grade students 120 students participated in the questionnaire survey, 100 valid questionnaires.,3. Research Method,The table of the score distribution for individual event,3.3 Research tool the questionnaire in the forms of 5 Likert, dividing into five grades,(from “great satisfaction”/ “basic satisfaction”/ “general”/ “some satisfaction” / “very dissatisfied”) . set up closed and open-ended questions separately. 3.4 Data collection and analysis The Foreign Language closed questions according to the Likert scale method, is divided into 5-scale. Open questions for some students think that only native English teachers (i.e. Foreign English teachers) is a good English teacher, but some students think that non-native teachers (Chinese English teacher) can be a good teacher. Research Method,4 Results and analysis,4.1 Quantitative findings,Foreign teacher has three points above the project number distribution in the spoken language, lively degree, cultural background, and Chinese teachers are mainly distributed in the sense of responsibility and solve the problem.The foreign teachers in a total of 27 items, 19 items of more than 3 points more than Chinese teacher, having certain advantages.,4. Results and analysis,4.2 Open-questions.,More student (46) prefer the Chinese teachers than the foreign teachers (only 38 students choose them), and 16%students thought both of the Chinese and foreign teachers could do well in their jobs.Some of the students gave some advices for both of the two kinds of teachers. For Chinese teachers, they could be more open-mind and vivid in class and further analysis the common points with the students. On the other hand, the foreign teachers could be more strict with the students and introduce more interesting things happened over seas.,4. Results and analysis,4.3 Summary and Enlightenment most of the students admitted that Chinese teachers in the English language Speech ability compared with the foreign teachers have obvious difference, but in the actual Teaching, Chinese and foreign teachers also complement each other, foreign teachers are good at, a professor at the mouth Language, vocabulary and culture, and Chinese teachers are good at grammar, reading and writing class.,5. Conclusion and Suggestion,5. Conclusion,Foreign teachers.Advantage to focus on speaking, vocabulary and culture, and Chinese teachers are better at. In reading and writing and grammar teaching; In the teachers personal characteristics, teaching implementation of teaching feedback, Chinese teachers has an obvious advantage. The results show that the students Recognition and appreciation, for Chinese English teachers can also suggests that language alone Force can not succeed in foreign language teaching.,5.
