Unit 10 Im going to be a basketball player. Lesson 1紫坊初中 万俚宏Topic Talk about future intentionsTeaching aims Knowledge and skills -To review and sum up words of jobs learnt so far . -To use What are you going to be when you grow up? I am going to be /I want to be to talk about their intentions. -To encourage the students to use English through task, not just learn the language . -To train students listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Processes and methods -To encourage the students to open their mouths and practice their oral English. -To encourage students to guess the jobs by imitating, arouse students thinking, imagination and intellect. -With the learning strategies of Using context & Role playing and Task based learning .Get the students to do pair work ,to talk about jobs using the teaching courseware , pictures ,flashcards or objects and to practice listening , speaking , by making a survey and doing groupwork to talk about classmates jobs. Emotion, attitudes and value -After the study of this lesson , students knowledge will be enlarged. The teacher should help them to set up the realization of serve for our society and our country . They should also set up the right attitude of working hard for the bright future.Difficulties and focuses -The structures using the sentence patterns like What, How questions. What are you going to be when you grow up ? How are you going to do that? -The structures and usage of affirmative and negative statements and the basic sentence patterns: I am going to be / I want to be . Im going to . -Master the vocabulary of occupations, the usage of future with going to , want to be , and talk about future jobs. -Learn to talk about jobs in conversations. Discuss the reasons why they want to be a/an . Train students listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities.Teaching methods Task based teaching and learning Team work Using context Role play Teaching aids Teaching courseware Teaching pictures Flashcards & objects A tape recorderTeaching time Period 1 (45 minutes)Teaching and studying design of mutual actions Step 1 Create plots and scenes to guide the new lesson (5) -Review some famous people talking about their jobs. -Show some pictures of famous persons and ask students to answer who they are and what their jobs are . T: Look at this picture .Who is he? Ss:Jackie Chan. T: What does he do ? Ss: He is an action movie actor . T: . Ss: . T: OK,well ,today we are going to learn Unit 10 Im going to be a basketball player. -Show the topic of this class on the blackboard. Step 2 Pre task (6)-Brainstorming. Divide the students into groups of 4.Ask each group to list some jobs they have learned so far, write down on the blackboard. See which group lists more (the teacher check the answer and sum up the jobs and decide which group wins).-Present the structures language and demonstrate to the students, then Write down them on the blackboard . (in the chart )-Read and repeat several times.Step 3 Task (15 ) The most popular jobs in our class. -Ask students in each group to choose favorite jobs and give reasons (discuss in groups ) (3) -Get one of the students in each group.Fill in the chart and make a report to the class .The teacher watches, listens and helps if necessary. Step 4 Mutual actions of the teacher and students( 11) -Get the students to do listening and try to choose out the things Cheng Han wants to do. At last ,tick out the correct pictures to complete the teaching activity of 2a and 2b.( 6) T: Thats all for the group work. Lets do listening. Ill play the recording for three times.The first time ,you should try your best to grasp the main idea of the material, and for the second time, you should choose the pictures and fill in the chart .At last, you should listen to tape for the third time and check your answers. Are you clear? Ss: Yes. -Get the students to make conversations with the information in 2a and 2b.( 5)T: What is Cheng Han going to be when he grow up? S1: He is going to be an actor . T: Where is he going to become an actor? S2: . T: How is he going to become an actor? S3: Hes going to take acting lessons. T: When is he going to start ? S4: Hes going to finish high school and college first. T: What about you, S5? What are you going be when you grow up? S5: Im going to be when I grow up.Step 5 Post task(3)Talking about members of ones family or friends using the language we learnt today. Step 6 Assessment & Sum up (5) The content of this lesson is to learn some nouns of jobs,and the sentence patterns like What? How?.Learn how to talk about future intentions.
