The Bodyguard Name :张倩 Class:072Lawrence Kasdan is the writer of this film, who graduated from the University of Michigan with an MA in Education. At first he wanted to be an English teacher. After graduation, Kasdan was failed to find a teaching position, so he became an advertising copywriter .After that he tried a crossover on Hollywood in his screenplays. Kasdan started the film business in the mid-1970s when he sold his script to Warner Bros for The Bodyguard which was finally produced as a 1992 film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. Kasdan also created many other works, such as the Star Wars trilogy, Raiders of the Lost Ark , The Big Chill, Grand Canyon. He has received four Academy Award nominations in his history. He is now both a writer and a director as well as a father of several directors and writers.This film could be taken as a detective one or a love story, but I prefer the latter. Here is the plots about it: A pop singer- Rachel Marron (acted by Whitney Houston)has been receiving some threatening notes, so her manager hires a bodyguard- Frank Farmer（acted by Kevin Costner） known for his excellent work. The bodyguard offends the singer and most of her entourage by strengthen security more than they feel is necessary. The bodyguard is haunted by the fact that he was on Reagans secret service staff but wasnt there to prevent the attack by Hinckley. Eventually the bodyguard and the singer start a love affair, After several ups and downs, at the Oscar Award Ceremony,he finally protect Rachel from danger almost at the cost of his life, and she begins to believe his precautions are necessary, and they have a good ending. At her film debut, Whitney Houston plays Rachel Marron, a pop music superstar. Rachel s vocal stylings have had a significant impact on her fans, thus she wons a lot of popularities due to her beautiful songs, such as I Will Always Love You and I Have Nothing. But one of her fans seems to stalk her and has threatened to kill her, actually this is designed by her sister who envies her.Though she has a bright life which people could see, no one knows that she suffer from a lot due to this kind of great fame which brings her unexpected danger.Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner), a professional bodyguard and former Secret Service agent, is hired to protect her.He is a man of good characteristics. He is full of responsibilities and could blame himself for absent from the attack by Hinckley. Because of his sucessful protects, Rachel begin to fall in love with him, and they start a romantic affair , though he tries to keep their relationship formal , they sleep together. Due to his special duty , Rachel must put her trust in Frank ahead of her own selfishness and desire for success; as Frank must face the fact that the threat may not be what was expected, and also this a test for their love . In the end, Franks duty is fulfilled by having successfully protected Rachel.This film deserves us a look for its several niminations. The leading role -Whitney Houston was nominated for Best Female Performance, Best Breakthrough Performance, and Best On-Screen Duo with co-star Kevin Costner at The 2nd MTV Movie Awards in 1993, as well as for a Razzie Award for Worst Actress in 1992.
