Analysis of the teaching material1) This is the seventh unit of Book 1 used for Grade Seven students in middle school.2) The main topic of this unit is “shopping”. 3) In this unit, students will learn to talk about clothing and prices. Such a topic is related to their daily life. And its very interesting and useful to students. So its helpful to raise their learning interests and improve their spoken English. . Analysis of the students1) Easy to arouse their learning emotion. 2) Poor in cooperative learning skills. 3) Thinking ability of the image is strong, but the attention can be scattered easily, . Analysis of the teaching goals1. Knowledge goals:1) Key vocabulary: how much, pants, sock, shirt, T-shirt, shorts, sweater, shoe, skirt, sale, dollar2) Target language:How much is this T-shirt?Its seven dollars.How much are these socks?Theyre two dollars.2. Ability goals: Enable the students to learn how to ask about prices.3. Moral goals:Help the students form a rational concept of consumption. Analysis of the important and difficult pointsAnticipated difficulties: How to ask about prices.Solutions: Relevant exercises as shown in the teaching procedure are designed to help students to overcome difficulties. Teaching aids:Multimedia computer, the blackboard. Analysis of the teaching methodsCentered on “task-based language teaching”, Ill give students some tasks and arrange many kinds of activities: make conversations, group activities, listening practice and guessing games. As we all know, the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate students abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson Ill mainly use “Communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method besides “Task-based” teaching method. Analysis of the learning methodsI request the students to study English independently and cooperatively. Each unit in Go for it contains pair work, group work and games. The students who sit at the same table and groups can make a discussion and learn from each other. It makes each student be relaxed. They neednt worry about making mistakes. It can arouse students to think and to say what they want to say. Study becomes more relaxed and pleased in this kind of environment. Analysis of the teaching procedureAltogether,there are 7 steps.Step 1 Warm up and lead in (4)Teacheractivity1. Greetings2. Write a letter”C” on the blackboard.Studentactivity1. Think about some words begin with “C” ( e.g. cat, cartoon, clothes, color)2. Try to describe the feature of clothes using the description words (e.g. big, small, red)Purpose1. Link the knowledge theyve learned before with the new one.2. Warm up the class atmosphere and make it lively.3. Activate the students, and then in this way, the students can be “open” to the input.Step 2 Presentation (14)Teacheractivity1. Show some pictures of clothes on the left, new words of clothes can be used in this activity (e.g. shorts, sweater, shoe, skirt, pants, sock, shirt, T-shirt); let students repeat these new words.2. Ask students about prices of clothes, using the structure “how much is this”and “how much are these”Studentactivity1. Ask students to match these pictures with the new words on the left.2. Use $ or RMB to answer my questions.Purpose1. Be familiar with new words.2. Study the new structure “how much is”and “how much are”3. Let students know the price of singular forms or plural forms.4. Distinguish dollar and RMB. 1$=6.4RMBStep 3 Pair work (7)Teacher activityShow the pictures of different clothes and prices. Let students prepare for several minutes and make dialogues.Student activity Practice in pairs like:A: How much is the shirt?B: Its 5 dollars.A: How much are these socks?B: They are 3RMB. PurposeThis activity will help students consolidate the knowledge and learn how to cooperate and communicate with others.Step 4 Listening (7)Pre-listeningWe cant neglect listening part as it is a very important skill. Then let students predicate before listening. It is a good way to stimulate students curiosity and the enthusiasm of participation. And its also an efficient way to improve their listening ability. While-listening1. Listen to 1c. Listen and circle the things in the picture you hear. Listen to the tape for 3 times. 2. Try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation. Imitation is a good way to learn English well, especially for junior students.Post-listeningPurposeCircle the things in the picture. Check the answers.This task aims to help students distinguish the singular forms or plural forms.Step 5 A guessing game (5)Teacheractivity1. Show some pictures of clothes but no prices, and let students guess the prices. 2. Practice the dialogues.StudentactivityStudents try to guess and say:”Its10RMB.They are 7dollars.”Purpose1. This activity is for the common students, the main aim of it is to train their ability of speaking. 2. Arouse students interests of learning English. Step 6 Summary (2)Teacher activitySummarize the descriptions of clothes, and how to ask about prices with the singular forms or the plural forms.StudentactivityListen and remember.PurposeSummary can help students have deep impressions on what theyve learned in this class.Step 7 Homework (1)TeacheractivityPresent the homework:1. Recite the words as many as possible after class.2. Make dialogues like 1c using the information given in 1a and write them in the exercise book.3. Review the lesson and prepare the next lesson.StudentactivityTake notes and finish the homework in time.PurposeHomework is so important that the students should speak English as much as they can in class or after class.
