文档简介

时事新闻阅读(七)A Money comes in different forms. Cash is used in real life. But when it comes to online business, some prefer virtual currencies (虚拟货币). Among them, bitcoin is the most famous one. Created in 2009 by a Japanese programmer, bitcoins are produced by computers and are not controlled by any government or bank. Everyone can buy them with real money through online exchanges (交易所). The total number of bitcoins is 21 million. They can be used for online business like buying products in computer games. In China, bitcoin trade has developed quickly, making up 80 percent of the worlds total, according to Xinhua. But recently, bitcoins caught peoples attention for another reason: There will be no more bitcoin exchanges in China soon. BTCChina, one of Chinas biggest bitcoin exchanges, closed its trading platform (平台) in September. Another two large exchanges, Huobi and OKCoin, said they would also stop all trading by the end of October, reported The Beijing News. This change is brought by an order from seven Chinese departments, including the Central Bank and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Thats because bitcoins were also used for illegal (非法的) activities, such as drug (毒品) selling and smuggling (走私). For example, WannaCry, a computer virus (病毒), hit tens of thousands of computers in May. It required the victims (受害者) to pay the hackers lots of money using bitcoins, otherwise it would destroy the files (文件) in their computers. Paying with bitcoins left no personal information for the police to find the people behind the attacks.1. The underlined word It refers to_.(指代关系)A. a virus B. bitcoin C. How much do you think each of them tipped (给小费)? The Briton asked: “Its common to tip 10 percent, right?” The American woman cried: “Oh, I was planning to leave 20 percent!” And the Chinese asked: “Whats a tip?” Although it is not a custom to tip in China, tipping is a big deal in Western countries. When traveling to countries like the US and Canada, it is common to tip about 10 to 15 percent of the bill. Usually, people give tips to a waiter or waitress when they eat in a restaurant. The US tops the list of the biggest restaurant tips, with waiters and waitresses expecting to get 10 to 25 percent of the total bill. So if you order $100 (about 662 yuan) worth of food, you are expected to pay your waiter at least $15, making your total payment $115. But why is this? Many waiters and waitresses get paid below the US minimum wage (最低工资) and work for tips to make up for that. According to the American travel website TripAdvisor, some states pay their servers (服务员) only $2.13 per hour. It is not just for waiters, either. Hotel maids(女佣), hairdressers (发型师) and taxi drivers also usually work for tips. Besides the US, tipping is also popular in some Southeast Asian countries, such as Indonesia and Thailand. However, in Japan there is a no-tipping culture and you may actually offend the waiter if you try to give him money.1. No other butterfly in the world migrates like the orange and black monarchs of North America. They cannot live for long periods in cold weather. So each autumn around October, the butterflies travel up to 3,000 kilometers south to spend winter in warmer locations. Some even fly to the mountains of Mexico. There are so many of them that they almost block out the sky. And you can hear their wings beating. It usually takes the butterflies two months to reach Mexico. After five months of staying, they head back north in the spring. But not one butterfly finishes the whole round-trip. They lay eggs along the way and die. Three generations (代) of butterflies will live and die during the spring journey alone. The fourth and final generation of the year is born in early autumn and will reach the north. But the butterflies hardly get to rest before starting the long journey south again to Mexico. The most amazing thing about these butterflies is that they return to the very same trees in Mexico that their great-great-grandparents used the winter before. However, the populations of this colorful butterfly have dropped in recent years. In 2015, the US Fish and Wildlife Service said that nearly a billion monarchs have disappeared from the overwintering sites (越冬地点) since 1990, reported the Washington Post. One of the main reasons, experts say, is that farmers have used herbicides (除草剂) on milkweed (马利筋) plants. The monarchs lay eggs along the route of their migration. Their larvae (幼虫) live and feed on milkweed plants. But the herbicides can kill them.1. The underlied word can be replace by_.(推测词义)A. break B. blow C. cover D. disappear from2. Seconds later when the screen showed a speed of 350 km/h, excited passengers (乘客) held up their cameras and cellphones to take photos. The train is Chinas newest high-speed train, Fuxing. Its now the fastest train in the world, reported Xinhua. There were 2,595 high-speed trains running across China by 2016, making up 60 percent of the worlds total high-speed trains, according to Xinhua. Chinese companies have also built more than 10 high-speed railways in Europe, Southeast Asia and South America. Overseas (在国外), the high-speed train has become a new name card for China. Besides the high-speed train, many other innovations (创新) have also changed peoples lives in China. Bike sharing (共享单车), for example, is not new itself. But China has made it much more convenient and popular. Months ago, the Chinese bike-sharing companies Mobike and Ofo went to Singapore and Britain. Users there were excited and posted photos of themselves riding the bikes on social media. But thats not all. Suppose you are riding a bike on the street and stop to buy a bottle of water. When you reach into your pocket, you find that you have left your wallet at home. Dont worry. Its not a problem if youre in China. You could just pay with your cellphone by scanning a quick respond code (QR, 二维码) from the seller. Cashless payment (无现金支付) has become a lifestyle choice in China. Even a street stall (摊位) selling fruit has QR codes. Thomas Derksen, from Germany, spent an entire day in Hangzhou without any cash or bankcards last year. In July he told China Daily it was something he could not imagine doing back home in Europe. It seems that China is really leading in some ways. And we have every reason to believe in an even brighter future.1. China has built high-speed trains in _ areas. (查找细节)A. 2 B. 3 C. 4 D. 52. He found the old man reading in a small house by the river. With a smile, the wise man listened to Garys story and told him, “First come help me boil a kettle (水壶) of water!” Gary saw a big kettle standing in the corner next to a small stove (火炉), but he didnt find any wood. So he went out to search for some. He came back with some dry wood, filled up the kettle with water and put it on the stove. Then he put some wood in the stove and started a fire. But because the kettle was too large, when the wood burned up, the water did not boil. So he ran off to get more. When he returned, the water had nearly turned cold. This time he learned his lesson and prepared more wood in advance. This time the water boiled very quickly. “If there is not enough wood, how would you boil the water?” the wise man asked.Gary thought for a moment but didnt know the answer, so he shook his head. “Well, then just pour out some water from the kettle!” the old man said. Gary nodded thoughtfully. “At first, yo
