Both Chinese and English languages abound with allusions. All these allusions have rich connotation. If one is not familiar with the cultural heritage of allusions, he or she will be puzzled by the connotation. Therefore, it is necessary for us to make a comparative study of the origin of allusions in English and Chinese. Besides, readers can understand the real meanings of allusions deeply and use them flexibly in cross-culture communication. III The Content of the Research English allusions are based on the whole western history and culture, while the Chinese allusions are based on Chinese history and culture. This paper attempts to make a comparative study of the origin of allusions in English and Chinese. It falls into four parts: the first part is the introduction of allusions. The second part introduces the present situation of allusions abroad and at home. The third part discusses the sources of English and Chinese allusions. Readers can understand the history and cultural background of idiom in the process of formation. The fourth part gives a conclusion to the whole passage.IV The Outline of the Thesis 1 Introduction 1.1 Definition of allusions 1.2 Significance and value of the study 2 Present Situation of Allusions Abroad and at Home 2.1 Present situation of allusions abroad 2.2 Present situation of allusions at home 3 A Comparative Study of the Origin in English and Chinese Allusions 3.1 Origins of English allusions 3.2 Origins of Chinese allusions 4 Conclusion V The Schedule of the ResearchNov. 20, 2012Nov. 30, 2012: finish writing the research proposal Dec. 01, 2012Dec. 20, 2012: finish writing the first draft Dec. 21, 2012Mar. 01, 2013: finish writing the second draftMar. 02, 2013Mar. 15, 2013: proofread and revise the draftMar. 16, 2013May. 20,2013: thesis defenseVI Reference 1 Cheng Yuzhen.
