Daniel 2010071112 Daniel 1Sophomore Writing 2-2 DRK SmithMay 24, 2012Personal Statement: To Make the Best Better Growing up in Shenzhen, I have been imbued with the desire to learn and the drive to work hard by my parents who valued education above everything else. My father, an account executive of a shipping company, would not accept ones simply giving up without working hard on a project or a goal. In addition, he also thinks that it is never too old for one to learn and there will not be short of chances to discover new things in this world. Deeply influenced by my father, I have also adopted his learning principles as my own. Therefore, in order to keep on the will to learn, I have developed a variety of interests that help to make me both physically and mentally strong. During the recent years, I have witnessed the rapid growth of hospitality industry in China and gradually, I have developed a great interest in it. Thus, to broaden my horizon and learn a course that will direct me in my future career, I am determined to make a greater progress and experience the art of hospitality in Swiss Hotel Management School. Spending the first 20 years of my life in Shenzhen, I have received good education and have been exposed to a variety of cultures in this coastal metropolis. Since I first learned about foreign culture, I have been dreaming of going abroad to have a look at what the real world would look like. With the aim of going abroad for further study, I am always ready to learn and have disciplined myself to work hard. As a result, I have created a good performance with an average grade of A before I Daniel 2entered college. I am currently an English major in Shenzhen University and my overall GPA has reached to 3.52 with my effort. In addition, my parents have helped me a great deal in my learning process and they always encourage me to learn about new things that can help to broaden my horizon. Therefore, my parents play an important role in cultivating my love for learning and this passion is not going to end. Nevertheless, a desire to learn is not enough for ones success if there is a lack of ability to apply what has been learned to the practice. In other words, it can be very important and useful if one can apply what he has learned to meet his need in a proper way. As for me, I am a person who is in favor of the idea that actions speak louder than words and I am good at finding out the relationships between different things and making good use of them. It cannot be denied that hospitality is more than a management that is able to direct my future career; it is a kind of art which will be applied to social and cultural activities. During my first college year, I had a part time job in Pizza Hut and I have learned about the basic running process of a restaurant. The experience not only put me in touch with the hospitality management for the first time but also aroused my great interest in learning more about it. The desire to explore this exciting field is overwhelming and I am quite confident that I am ready for it now. I am an arid soccer fan and the high school championship has become one of my precious lessons. No one would ever think about that my school team could become the champion until we really did it. At that time, I was the central defender Daniel 3and every one of the team really held together and worked very hard. The whole team has paid 100 percent attention to every single match until we got the final champion. That experience not only taught me that hard work would pay off but also cultivated my team sprit. Teamwork and responsibility are two necessary elements in nowadays society and I think they will also help me in the future study. Switzerlands reputation as the home of hotel and hospitality management has a long history and is widely known to the world. Switzerland Hotel Management School is one of the leading institutions offering a wide range of world-class academic programs on hospitality management, restaurant, events, spa, and resort management. Besides, the intense academic program and the internships around the world are another attraction for me. After reading more information, I believe SHMS will be the most suitable place to pursue the advanced education. Two years have passed since I first entered the Shenzhen University and every change I made enables me to become mentally mature and to understand life better.
