This essay focus on some social problems ,whether our country should allow a second child ,the comparison of life in China 50 years ago and at present, the responsibility to be role models, the good and bad of television and the possible effects of computer use on childrens health and physical development. I am interested in such social phenomenon because through these facts, I can deeper understand the present life and public value.Keywords Second Child ; Television; Role models ;Automobile ComputerIntroduction In reality there is always a lot of troubles where we live. While we can calm down to think about these problems, it will be not so terrible. The following six aspects are what I am interested in this term. They include food and clothing and all aspects at daily life.Body1. Allowing a second childA problem which is facing in society is that whether parents should have a second child，which means that there will be more and more people in China. The government has to stand the pressure of formidable amount of population. Therefore, China encourages families to have only child, another word for family planning. However, in my opinion, a second child should be allowed for several reasons.The first reason to raise a second child is that one child would feel alone without brothers or sisters. The child who does not have brothers or sisters is always staying at home lonely on vacation. The child has no companions who have already go to their homes to have fun, If there were two children in a family, they would whisper at night. Besides, when children grow up, they can pay a visit to each others house in the Spring Festival.The second reason why people are allowed to have a second child is that children can help each other when facing difficulties. The most dependable and best men whom people facing troubles to turn to are their brothers or sisters. Brothers or sisters are the people who are willing to help them without any hesitate. The final and important reason to encourage a family have a second child is that it can decrease the pressure of raising parents on children. Children have the obligation o f taking care of their parents. If one of children has a job where is far from parents, another child can help to look after their parents. Tony is an only child in his family who works in another city. When his parent gets ill, Tony feels guilt for not looking after his parents.In the ends, because two children can support each other, look after their parents in turns, a second child should be allowed in a family. If there is a second child, there would be more energy in the home so that a child would not feel lonely. Therefore, I think that a second child should be encouraged in China.2.Compare and contrast life in China 50 years ago and at presentBecause of reform and opening up policy, there are big changes in peoples life. Here, life in 50 years ago and life in china in the present are compared with the regard to the job search, food and cloth and spiritual life.Firstly, the way that undergraduates find jobs varies considerably. Fifty years ago, undergraduates are distributed by the government to companies. It means that Chinese get a secure job that is called “iron rice bowl” in the past, which can ensure their entire life. However, things are quite different today. There are many undergraduates in china who should find jobs by their own. Besides, people are always changing their jobs in the present.Secondly, there are also many differences which are what people eat and how they wear. In the old days, the colors and styles of cloth are simple. Because of food production restrictions, people should use tickets which were called “Liang Piao” to buy things. However, people can buy whatever they like in the present. The days that people only can eat fish and meat at spring festival have gone. Finally, the way that Chinese enjoy their spiritual life varies. Chinese only can get together to see the black and white movies in open cinema where were too many people crowded in a little place. Children in fifty years ago played and went hiking together, whereas people now can enjoy all kinds of entertainment. People can go to karaoke, play computers and see movies in anywhere. There are some terrible influences on Chinese children. Many of children are addicted to playing computer games without exercise.In conclusion, fifty years ago, the style of cloth was unadorned and entertainment was simple. Besides, the way of job distribution has changed over fifty years. Though the life in the present is more exciting than in fifty years ago, there are also some bad temptations. Therefore, life in fifty years ago is more happy and simple than today3.Responsibility to be role modelsA problem that is facing society is whether celebrities have a responsibility to be role models for young people. Many people think that their jobs are not being role models, so they do not need to do so. However, in my opinion, celebrities should try their best to be role models.The first reason to suggest celebrities setting an example to the young is that celebrities have a further influence on their young fans. Fans like to copy their behavior, because celebrities are always setting a trend. For example, fans dress however celebrities dress and eat whatever they eat. Fans want to be a person like celebrities by imitating the celebrities actions. Therefore, it is vital to be role models as celebrities. If celebrities do something wrong, fans of theirs will be mislead.The second reason why celebrities should behavior well is that celebrities are a part of society, who have obligations to lead the young correctly. They are recommended to be role models. Celebrities can encourage more people to do something meaningful because celebrities have powerful influence on society. For example, Jack Chen is famous as an actor who donates money to charities. There are a lot of celebrities who try their best to make society better.The last and most important reason is that celebrities not only stand for themselves but also stand for their countries, which spurs the youngs confidence in nation. Celebrities are easily known by people around the word. How celebrities act will have an important effect on what foreigners think about the countries. Celebrities are connections among different countries. Yao Ming is a famous celebrity who proves that the Chinese also can take a place in the NBA. Yao Ming sets dreams to many young basketball lovers.In the end, celebrities do have a responsibility to be role models for young people. They are a part of society and have an influence on the young. It is selfish to just mind their own business without thinking of their countries. Therefore, celebrities should take efforts to be role models and make society better by using their powerful influence.4.Television：good or badOne hundred years ago, people got together to see opera in a teahouse, when people were free. With the invention of electric, the age of technology has arrived. More and more electrical equipments show up gradually. People have an oven to heat the food which goes cold. With the washing machine, it is easier to wash many clothes. It is the refrigerator that prevents stored food from being moldy in a hot day. Besides, television is an important life essential which many people cannot leave. Most of time, people would watch TV to relax themselves or have fun. However, the television does have a bad influence on people. For one thing, peoples health is threatened by the television. For another thing, the psychology of people also can be misleaded.The most apparent effect that the television has on people is peoples health. Not only television does be bad for peoples eyes, it also does harm to peoples body. Most people, especial children, like lying on bed, when people watch TV, which makes people cannot have a good posture to protect eyes. Second, children are fond of getting close to the television to see favorite programs. Watching TV too long is also the reason why the television is bad for peoples eyes. Besides, according to the study in American, the escalating of obese people worries people year by year. Unfortunately, the television is also the one of the factors that causes people fat. Seeing television takes up exercise time. Many people choose to stay at home, watching TV，rather than go out to do exercise. In addition, most people get into a habit of eating snatch when people are seeing movies. Both two reasons contribute to people becoming fat. The television is indeed to peoples health adverse.Moreover, what is showed on TV sometimes misleads peoples action and thinking. Awkward movies on TV misguide people to behavior badly, which can lead to a crime. There are many movies about fighting which make no sense in the television. Those movies can make people more aggressive. Furthermore, in the movies, people are so weak that easily dead, which can dig murder desire of people. People who do not think highly of life become violent. Peoples mood maybe go bad and people even do a crime without thinking. Television also has a bad effect on peoples thinking. Television spreads wrong information or some knowledge which does not go for children. Some love movies are too porny to be seen by children. Other love movies can make children early-maturing. In addition, there are many talent shows, which can misguide children to believe that beauty is everything. Therefore, children care more about appearance than wisdom.In brief, nearly every family has a television. However, there are many disadvantages in television. Peoples psychology and physic are both influenced by television. Therefore, people should take efforts not to watch TV too long and should go out to do exercise. Whether people can make the most of the technology depends on how to use it. 5.Automobile: SkodaAs a domestic automobile manufacture company from Czechoslovakia, Skoda was looking for a foreign partner by 1990 and selected Volkswagen AG (VAG), in Europe to expand itself to the international market.In the Skoda UK study, the Skoda uses SWOT to analyze its external and internal environment and finds that economic factors in the PESTLE analysis affect the company and decisions that the Skoda made. That is to say, when the Skoda stretches itself into Europe market, the highly competitive and crowed market in UK offers threats to the Skoda. More precisely, with 50 different vehicles manufactures selling 200 models and 2000 model derivatives in UK market, the Skoda only obtains 1.7% market share. In addition, the market share of the Skoda may encounter further loss, if the Skodas products are not enough powerful to be bought by customers.Therefore, to make the Skoda more competitive in UK, a stronger product range is needed in the Skodas decision-making process and this strategy can bring opportunities to increase its market share. Consequently， to attract different market segments, the Skoda has manufactured seven different products in UK, which can appeal to various ranges of purchase power of customers. For example, the Skoda Fabia, the Skoda Superb and the Skoda Octavia Estate are provided for basic usage as city car, up-market and family usage respectively. Besides of the strong product range, setting a proper price for each different products makes the Skoda be prior to other competitors which sell cheaper automobiles to acquire more market share.6.Explain the possible effects of computer use on childrens health and physical development.Nowadays, computers have become prevalent around the world. There are more and more children playing computers in their home. However, many studies of childrens computer use show that there are some negative effects on children. The essay will explain the possible negative effects of computer use on childrens health and physical development in three aspects: childrens physical health, displacement of activities for physical development and childrens mental health.Computer use may have negatively affect childrens physical health. According to Shields and Behrman (2001), children who have escalating time on computers can suffer from the pains on their eyes, backs and their wrists. In addition, as what workers have injured because of staring too long at a computer screen, children can also have a harmful effect on their vision. Another side effect on childrens physical health is that taking more time to use computers will increase the risk of obesity. Because of excessive time on watching TV, more and more people are getting obese. Furthermore, children will have the same risk if children increase their time on computers (Shields and Behrman, 2001). As Shields and Behrman (2001) advise, parents should have a limit on computer use to decrease the risk of those pains.Childrens activities for physical development can also be displaced by the extensive computer use. Since computer use can take up a lot of childrens time, it can displace activities for health development. According to Shields and Behrman (2001), the use of computer is escalating over time. There were nearly 21,000,000 children and teenagers began to surf the internet in 2000. Many of children, whatever gender they are, use the internet to surf music they like, chat with each other and send email (Shields and Behrman, 2001). Furthermore, as what Subrahmanyam says, computer use may not decrease the time of TV. Therefore, because of computers, videogames and television, the screen time increases, which makes children have less time to do outdoor activities for their physical development (Subrahmanyam, 2001).Another disturbing effect of computer use on childrens health and physical development is childrens mental health. The research of Subrahmanyam and colleagues (2001) shows the proportion of aggressive computer games is increasing time after time. Children who play violent computer games have different experiences from those playing educational games. For instance, if children play Duke Nukem and Doom for a long time, it can expose children to aggressive behavior (Shield and Behrman, 2001).
