Keep youur answer to a minute or ttwo at most.Cover four toppics: early years, educatiion, work history, and reccent careerexperience. Empphasize this last subject. If the company places a great deeal of emphasis on researcch anddevelopment, emphasiize the fact that you wantt to create new things andd that youknow this is a pplace in which such activiity is encouraged. If the organizationstresses finaancial controls, your answwer should mention a reverrence fornumbers. If you ffeel that you have to conccoct an answer to this queestion - if, forexample, tthe company stresses reseaarch, and you feel that yoou should mention iteven tthough it really doesnt interest you- then you prrobably should not betakinng that interview, becausee you probably shouldnt be considering a jobwith that organization.Your hhomework should include leearning enough about the ccompany to avoidapproachinng places where you wouldnnt be able -or wouldntt want- to function.Since most of us are poor liarss, its difficult to con anyone in an interview.Buut even if you should succceed at it, your prize is a job you dont reallywaant.4. What can you do foor us that someone else caant? Heree you have every right, annd perhaps an obligation, to toot your own horn anddbe a bit egotistical. Why are yoou leaving (did you leave) your present (last) job? Be brief, tto the point, and as honesst as you can without hurtting yourself.Refer back tto the planning phase of yyour job search. where youu considered thistopic as you set your reference sttatements. If you were laiid off in anacross-the-boaard cutback, say so; otherrwise, indicate that the mmove was yourdecision, thee result of your action. DDo not mention personalityy conflicts. The interviewwer may spend some time prrobing you on this issue, particularly ifit is cleaar that you were terminateed. The ”We agreed to dissagree”approach may be usseful. Remember hat your rreferences are likely to bbe checked,so dont concooct a story for an interviiew.19. How do you feel aabout leaving all your bennefits to find a new job? Mentioon that you are concerned, naturally, but not paniccked. Dont ciite personality problems. If you make your last jobb soundterrible, an intervviewer may wonder why you remained there until now.21. What do you think off your boss? Bee as positive as you can. A potential boss is likelly to wonder if you mightttalk about him in similar terms at some point in thhe future.22. Why arentt you earning more at yourr age?你这年龄,为什么没有挣到更多的钱呢?/ 晕死!Say that this is one reason that you arre conducting this job seaarch. Dont bedefensive.23. What do you feel this position should pay? Salary is a delicate topic. We suggest that yoou defer tying yourself too aprecise figure for as llong as you can do so poliitely. You might say, ”Iuunderstand that the range for this job is between $_ and $_. Thatsseems appropriate for the job as I understand it.” You might answer thequesstion with a question: ”PPerhaps you can help me onn this one. Can youtell mee if there is a range for similar jobs in the organnization?”If you are askked the question during ann initial screening intervview, you mightsay that yoou feel you need to know mmore about the positionss responsibilitiesbefore yyou could give a meaningfuul answer to that questionn. Here, too, eitherby askking the interviewer or seearch executive (if one iss involved), or inresearchh done as part of your hommework, you can try to finnd out whether thereis a ssalary grade attached to tthe job. If there is, and if you can live withit, ssay that the range seems rright to you.If the interrviewer continues to probee, you might say, ”You knnow that Imma-ki-ng $_ now. Like everyone ellse, Id like to improve on that figure, but my majjor interest is with the jjob itself.” Remember thaat the act oftaking a new job does not, in and of iitself, make you worth morre money. If a search firmm is involved, your contacct there may be able to heelp with thesalary questioon. He or she may even be able to run interference for you. If,for instance, he tells you what the poosition pays, and you telll him that you areearning that amount now and wouldd Like to do a bit better, he might go back tothe eemployer and propose that you be offered an additioonal 10%.If no price rangge is attached to the job, and the interviewer conttinues topress the subjectt, then you will have to rrestpond with a number. Yoou cannotleave the impresssion that it does not reallly matter, that youll aacceptwhatever is offered. If youve been ma-ki-ngg $80,000 a year, you cant say thata $35,000 figuure would be fine without sounding as if youve giiven up onyourself. (If yoou are ma-ki-ng a radical career change, however, tthis kind ofdisparity may be more reasonable and unnderstandable.)Dont selll yourself short, but conntinue to stress the fact that the job itselfis thee most important thing in your mind. The intervieweer may be trying todetermiine just how much you wantt the job. Dont leave thhe impression thatmoney iss the only thing that is iimportant to you. Link queestions of salary tothe woork itself. But whenever ppossible, say as little ass you can about salary unttil you reachthe ”final” stage of the interview pprocess. At that point, yoou knowthat the company iss genuinely interested in you and that it is likelyy to beflexible in salary negotiations.24. What arre your long-range goals? Refer back to the planning phase of youur job search. Dont answwer, ”Iwant the job youve advertised.” Relate yyour goals to the company youare interviewing: inn a firm like yours, I wouuld like to.”25. How ssuccessful do you youve been so far? Say that, all-in-alll, youre happy with thee way your career has proggressed sofar. Given the nnormal ups and downs of liife, you feel that youvee done quitewell and have no complaints.Present a positive and confident piicture of yourself, but doont overstate yourcase. An answer like, ”Everythhings wonderful! I cant think of a timewhen thiings were going better! Im overjoyed!” is likelyy to make aninterviewer woonder whether youre tryiing to fool him . . . or yyourself. Themost convinciing confidence is usually quiet confidence. 3.说说
