Conclusion221.IntroductionSince the ancient times, there has been a strong relationship between peoples appreciation and education. However, in the past, except the artistic courses, Esthetic Education was not applied in other pedagogical activities. But nowadays, as the appreciation is concerned more and more by people, educators begin to pay more attention to finding beauty in the fields of education. In China, some outstanding educators begin to realize the importance of beautification of education process. They try to carry out Esthetic Education in their teaching activities, and have gained some good results. For example, Shanghai city has already made a good try of “Happy education” in middle schools. As matters stand, there is a serious ill of English language teaching- only focus on grammar teaching, which causes the dreary classroom atmosphere and decreases students learning interest. Esthetic Education is rarely applied in ELT. In fact, English language teaching is a kind of art. Compared with other subjects, it is much easier to embody the advantages when Esthetic Education is used in ELT, especially in the aspects of teaching methods, language and soul.2.Review Esthetics Education and ELT2.1The concepts of Esthetic Education In order to fully define the idea and concepts behind Esthetic Education, it is necessary to first define the concept of: What is esthetics? Esthetics deals with “a branch of philosophy that studies the principles of beauty, especially in art”.(Oxford Advanced Learners English- Chinese Dictionary 28) With this basic definition of esthetics we can focus on the idea of Esthetic Education. Beauty is human pabulum, while the love of beauty is human nature. Beauty enriches human inner world, purifies human spirit, beautifies human nature, and improves human spirit quality.Esthetic Education is an education which trains the appreciative ability and creativity of the students by using the combination of artistic beauty, natural beauty, and life beauty, and it is an important component of character education. In short, Esthetic Education can help students develop better relationships with the material being taught inside the classroom. 2.2The relationship between Esthetic Education and ELT As everyone knows, the classroom teaching is one of the most important ways that the students learn English. As far as the English teaching in the middle schools is concerned, teachers have to arouse the students interest so that they may learn better. And Esthetic Education is one of the essential factors to arouse the students interest and help them to learn better. Teachers beautiful classroom terminology, their beautiful posture, their beautiful writing, and so on, all these can make the students like English and be eager to learn it. On the other hand, as far as English is concerned, its writing, pronunciation, and literature works all possess artistic characteristics. And the texts with beautiful language and quality, which are selected in the English teaching books, combines the ideal beauty, the emotional beauty, the natural beauty, the life beauty, and the artistic beauty, and contains rich esthetic factors, releases full-bodied esthetic fragrance, thus they are the most visual object for the esthetic education. Thus, English teaching and learning as a linguistic science in China and esthetics are interlinked. Esthetic Education should be carried out in ELT to teach the students how to appreciate the beauty in the English language and make them aware of the cultural connotation that English conveys. Teachers should not just teach the students grammar and new words. They should pay attention to the beauty of the language. After the students know how to appreciate the beauty of English, they will learn it on their own initiative.3.Teachers are disseminators of beauty.English language teaching is set up with the aim of the combination of English education, ideological education and esthetic education. Carrying out the Esthetic Education in ELT consciously and intentionally, we call it “Beautification of English Education”. It means that teachers teaching is a science and also a kind of art.Su Home Lybskey, who is an outstanding educationist of Russia, also has such a point-if there is no beauty, no art, education is impossible. In activities of ELT, teachers standard pronunciation, rhythmic intonation, suitable expression, dignified appearance, neat blackboard handwriting, flexible teaching methods and even beautiful soul, all of these can bring beauty for students. Therefore, teachers are disseminators of beauty.3.1 Beauty of teachers classroom language Classroom language is used when a teacher is imparting knowledge to his students and organizing the classroom teaching activities. The quality of a teachers classroom language incarnates his cultural quality. The aim of ELT gives weight to the utilization of language-listening, speaking, reading and writing. It lays stress on practicality of English. And English teachers classroom language is not only one of the teaching methods but also the target language the students learn. Accomplishment of teachers classroom language decides the efficiency of students brain work in class to a large extent. And teachers language art level is directly connected with the quality of classroom teaching.3.1.1 Sense of rhythm Rhythmic intonation offers students a good language learning environment and fosters students listening and intonation and tone. How can teachers use their classroom language rhythmically? Several factors affect teachers beautiful classroom language. The variable recitation of English words and sentences can give readers and audiences esthetic feeling, which is mainly embodied in the skills of saying and reading English. Teachers should pay attention to the following factors and master them well-phonetics, syllables, sense group, breath group, sentence stress, pausing, intonation and tone. The rhythm of English speech is formed by the recurrence of stressed syllables at more or less regular intervals of time and by the alternation of stressed and unstressed syllables(王桂珍,172).E.g. (O=.stressed syllable; .= unstressed syllable)1. O ORead this. Work hard.Try again. Quite right.2. O.OTell me why. Whats it for?Show me that. Write it down.3. O.O.O.Write your answer on the blackboard, please.4.OO.Im sure that you can write about it. When teachers use English to teach students in class, their rhythmic intonation makes them seem to be native English speakers, and students may appreciate beauty of such language and be eager to speak English.3.1.2 Sense of humor One of the key elements of success in a foreign language class is the possibility for that class to be not only an instance of learning, but also a moment of fun. Teachers humorous language makes the class atmosphere more pleasant, increases interaction among teacher and students, makes learning more meaningful and enjoyable. However, some argue that humor is time consuming, increases teacher talking time, and may increase learner dependence. Another common reason is a disbelief in the seriousness of humor. The idea of the teacher as a performer may not sound professional to some of us. Educator Shiweiteluofu said: Educations the first major one of the assistants is humorous. Humorous language teaching is not just to get students to laugh. It makes the students cheer at the same time, and prompts the students to think, to be interested, and thus brings a positive result in the education. A teachers classroom language should be humorous, but he should not be a clown figure. He is a serious, conscientious professional who believes in the meaningfulness and effectiveness of having fun while learning. By using humor, I do not mean entertaining students with silly jokes all the time. Although jokes, if used wisely, may contribute to the repertoire of his teaching kit, the funny teacher is not an entertainer. He is an educator interested in the progress of his students. He either tries to add a touch of humor and an element of fun to everyday class activities, or to use activities that are essentially humorous, such as games and jazz chants. Teachers who naturally have a good sense of humor should use it, but that is not at all a requirement to be a funny teacher.3.1.3 Sense of freshness Teachers classroom language should be fresh, as the students are adolescents who are interested in those novel things. And the new-fangled excitants cause the students to learn initially. Thus teachers should develop themselves endlessly and come into contact with new things consciously. When teaching in the classroom, teachers can effectively use the sense of freshness to catch students attention and to rouse students interest. According to the research, nearly all the teachers greet their students at the beginning of the class by saying “Good morning.” Or “Good afternoon.”, rarely use “Hello!”, “Hi!”, or “Nice day, isnt it?” . And when a teacher judges the students answers, he always uses “Good!” or “Right!”. Teachers invariable classroom language can not arouse the students interest as it is dull and not fresh. In fact, a teacher can try to use various forms to judge the students answer as follows:1) You answer it decidedly.2) Your answer is quite right.3) You give us an excellent answer.4) Very good! You can answer without looking at your text-book.5) Thats nothing, yes? Practice more and youll do better.6) It doesnt matter. Please try again. Im sure you can do it well.3.2 Beauty of teachers posture Beauty of teachers posture contains teachers suitable glance, facial expression, action and clothes. Teachers posture should be natural and amiable, decent and dignified, enthusiastic and lively, which can make the students realize the beauty and feel happy and can also create a beautiful atmosphere for the teaching activity.3.2.1 Glance Eyes are the windows of peoples soul. We can use our eyes to deliver massages or to express feelings. If teachers can well apply their eyes, they can reach such a bourn- their eyes can say something! And the students can understand what fraise is and what criticism from teachers eyes is. And teachers also can understand the students inner world through their eyes and communicate the feelings with their students. In class, teachers should pay attention to a student whose mind is wandering and throw a look of reproach at him. When the student receives such a glance, he will perceive that the teacher is watching him. At that time, a slight quake happens in his soul, and then he will realize what has happened and concentrate in class again. Therefore, when teaching in class, a teacher should use his glance to look around the classroom. Such glance can avoid some unnecessary conflict with the students and can save time, thus the teacher will gain a good effect in class. When a teacher ask a question in class, he should smile at the student whom he wants to ask, and use his glance to encourage the student, which can eliminate the students fear and calm down his nervous emotion and enhance his confidence. It is possible that such an approbatory glance can change a student to be eager to learn English. 3.2.2 Facial expressionIn human intercourse, there must be without verbal message and with nonverbal communication. Samovar and Porter (2000) propose that nonverbal communication involves all those nonverbal stimuli in a communication setting that are generated by both the source and his or her use the environment and that have potential message value for the source or receiver. Here, teachers facial expression is one kind of the nonverbal communication. Ross (1974) claims that some researches show that (verbal message) the information conveyed by verbal messages is only 35%,while that by nonverbal messages reaches 65%. 82% of the classroom teaching is realized through teachers facial expressions, but only 18% of the information is achieved through verbal behavior (Grant and Hennings, 1971).For example, teachers can express their acknowledgement and appreciations to the students achievements and give them encouragement as well by smiling, especially to those who are timid or weaker ones. Those students need more teachers attention and their praise and encouragement. On the other hand, teachers can convey the meaning “You have done wrong” by frowning or puzzled gazing. They may also show the assessment of the students behavior by smiling and frowning.3.2.3 Gesture Teachers gesture is also one kind of the nonverbal behavior which may place some special roles from some aspects with the combination of language in classroom teaching. For example, teachers mainly use language to announce the regulations and rules, but they usually adapt nonverbal behavior form to carry out the regulations and rules. They can use eye contact or gesture to stop the discipline problems. Gesture is the mean used frequently in class. And teachers can fraise students by putting on their shoulders. If the students give a wrong answer, teachers can shake their head, and the students will know their answer is wrong.3.2.4 Appearance Appearance reflects teachers professional demands and taste. Teachers beautiful appearance, which is different from the common beautiful appearance, directly affects the effect of teaching and the trend of the students esthetic appreciation. Teachers pay attention to their appearance which is beneficial to the students concentration in class. Thus, teachers suitable appearance is an important part in teaching. Besides, having a professional teacher appearance is crucial. If a teacher looks like a kid, the students will treat him disrespectfully accordingly. If a teacher looks like an adult, they will treat him respectfully accordingly. First impressions are hard to erase, so make it a good one. Teachers, like other professionals, gain respect from their constituents partially through appearance. Therefore, a neat and clean appearance is required at all times. Clothing choices should meet or exceed the standards of their assigned district. All clothing should fit properly (neither too tight nor oversized and sagging) and provide a modest covering (avoid sheer fabrics, plunging necklines, and styles that do not cover mid sections or undergarments).3.3 Beauty of teachers blackboard handwriting Many people consider the teaching handwriting as a lost science. Observers report that most teachers colleges looked at the information-age trends and decided that computer keyboard skills would replace handwriting skills. This did not happen. Indeed, blackboard handwriting is the great concentration of teachers train of teaching and it is one part of teachers lesson plan. It is very concise and to the point. It is an art creation to the teaching materials. Therefore, the design of the blackboard handwriting should be in a pithy style. And applying colors, pictures and forms concordantly is a good mean. The beauty of teachers blackboard handwriting can strengthen the effect of classroom teaching. And the beauty of teachers blackboard handwriting also conforms to the students curiosity and can enhance their perception so that they will begin to think and seek after beauty. It is proved by the science that peoples attention to different colors are arranged in proper proportions, the students will become interested in the studies. On the contrary, drab colors may cause the students jaded feeling, which is using the same color chalks to write the same rules, which is beneficial to the students memory. For example, when a teacher teaches the students how to express the time, he can design such funny blackboard handwriting: In addition, if a teacher wants to teach the students some kinds of animals, he can design the blackboard handwriting to be a small forest. There are some animals behind the hills or in the thickets and the lakes. The students can find the animals and learn how to express them into English. Such blackboard handwriting is very interesting and has a good effect on the students learning. The students will get interested in learning it. They learn it in the game without any mental burden. Thus they will master the new knowledge easily and quickly.3.4 Beauty of teachers soul Teachers should try their best to be a perfect person, as the students they face are innocent. What the teachers undertake is the future of our country. The beauty of teachers is the beauty of their soul. Teachers should be tolerant and generous, just and selfless, merciful and
