Three Meanings Of The True Lovesomething what I learn from Message in a Bottle Before beginning this article, I would love to talk something about my idea during my writing. At first, I will summarize the main idea about this story, then I will share my opinions about the two protagonist, and finally, I will talk something about the meanings of true love which I learnt from this book. The book Message in a Bottle is a love novel written by Nicholas Sparks. It begins with a letter hidden in a bottle, writing about the love and loss someone to his wife, was picked up by a woman jogging nearby. To her curiosty of the writer,Theresa finally found out this man ,whose name was Garrett and was a ship repairman, and met him. Furthermore ,they spent some happy time together and estabished their friendship ,which turned into love not soon. However ,problems and pain acompanied at the same time, for Garrett was still grieving for his dead wife, Catherine, and was hestitated at Theresas love. He lost his life for saving a family shipwrecked during his journey to Theresa, going to tell her his decision to love once more after realizing what the true love is and writing his last letter to Catherine in which he finally acknowledged how much both these two women meant to him. It was a sad story ends up with a sorrow endding , even though it contained happyness and sweetness at the first beginning. On one hand, Garretts love to his wife moved me a lot, for its purity and sincerity ,as well as loyalty. On the other hand, however, what he did confuses me. Is this love a true love, both for his wife and himself ? In my opinion, It is uncomplete , for it lacks of the ablity to love once more and pass his love onto others, just like passing the torch or the light. The ones whom we love and care about, did go away and will never come back anymore, but this doesnt mean that they leave us in situ, grieving and unable to recover after a set-back, contrarily, we can send our love just as in the past, by missing, or by commemorating, both on the premise acknowledging their going away. And we also can send our love to people around us, beautify their lives and hearts. However, Garrett didnt understand it, this short-spoken man lingered between his love to Catherine and to Theresa, and hestitated, had no idea to decide what to do, therefore, love tragedy did happen inevitably. Someone might say that it wasnt his fault to their tragedy, it was the storm. Yes, to some extent, it is right. However, can anybody deny that his hestitation delayed his setting out to Theresa, and was one of the reasons for his encounter with a storm which eventually took his life away? Garretts death ,in a sense, teaches us to express our love in time. As for Theresa, I think she was a unwaving woman, with toughness beyong words and patience. She knew that she fell into love with this man in her first glance at the first letter in the bottle, even she had never known and met him. And her love never changed again, no matter what problems she met, and how tough she felt, she knew that she loved him, and that was it. When I was reading, I have thought more than once that If I were Theresa, I wont insist on such a hard love, and will quit and love someone else. I am short of pantience and goal, I am not Theresa as she was, so I wont get Garretts love predeterminately. It was these two person who had taught me what a true love really is , and brought me lots of heart-shakes at the same time. The first meaning of true love. Garrett and Theresa were fated. They began with a letter in bottle, and ended up with another letter in bottle, though these were two different letters, they were both written to Garretts wife, Catherine. In other words , they came to know each other, made friends with each other, fell in love with each other, and even lost each other , were all on account of the letters in bottle. The lettlers in bottle had saw their story. All the story was short, no more than several months, but worth widely reading and recollecting. In this way , I learnt the first meaning of a true love, that is, trud love doest care how long we love each other, but how deep we love. The second meaning of true love.In the novel, Garrett led a wateriness and boring life after his wifes death, this state changed when Theresa broke into his daily life. They had spent a happy and sweet time, together with Garretts father Dodge and Theresas son Kevin. During that beautiful time, They had ever been intimate and closed to each other, enjoying the time sitting togother, knowing the most precious part of each other. But blissfulness didnt stay long, conflicts came and took residence. With Theresas continusous effort and constant love, Garrett ,he begins to shake off some of the cobwebs of loneliness and pain, and gradually admitted the importance Theresa to himself. As Anything unexpected may happen, therefore, everyone has his own pity. For Garrett, his pity was too late to tell Theresa his love, and for Theresa, her pity was too late to hear the love spoken by Garrett. That was what I learnt from the second meaning of true love ,that we should love, and enjoy the love when we love , and should tell them our love as much as possible. The third meaning of true love.Garrett loved his wife, much more than we could feel, That was right. It was a grateful love,a deep but quiet love, one that he knew, above all else, was irreplaceable. He kept everything her owns intact, and even put them in the original way just as she never left. In every corner of the house, he could feel her existance, just like that she was being with him. Before meeting Theresa, his life has been an empty shell for the past two years. So, what about his feelings toward Theresa? He was amazed about her, wanted to get close to her, but at the same time, he was afraid of something, something that he didnt know, something that he couldt take charge of. Maybe he was nervous of his betrayal to Catherine, maybe he thought he would hate himself if he react to Theresa
