3、any public transportation, in shops, movie theaters, schools, and office buildings. The general rule is if you are indoors, then you probably are not allowed to smoke. The exceptions are bars, nightclubs, and some restaurants. If a restaurant does allow smoking, it will only be in an area that is de

4、signated for smokers. If you are with someone, even outdoors, it is polite to ask if they mind before you start smoking.,Guess ?,Obesity in America,Over 26% of Americans are obese. Increasing prevalence of diabetes has led to increase in micro vascular complications such as blindness, end-stage renal disease, and lower limb amputations.,Crimes has reached alarming proportions,A survey by the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA): 61%

This has caussed great worries and anxieties among students and teachers. Gang violence is becomi

17、ng more and more of a problem in America today. Local Street gangs make it dangerous for someone to walk down the Street. Or come home from work, or pick up your kids at school.,Decaying morality,Divorce has cause very serious problems in the American society. In 1979, there were about 1.2 millions

18、of couples who got divorced, three times as many as that of ten years before. The divorce rate increased from 13.4 percent ten years before to 22.8 percent in every thousand couples. This has caused serious problems, especially to children. There were millions of young people whose parents were divo

19、rced and about 1 million who suffered greatly from “broken families” because of their parents divorce. Some of them have escaped from their one parent families because of ill treatment; some are driven out of homes, wandering in the streets. As a result, they began to do things desperately, taking d

20、rugs, dringing wine, stealing money, robbing, raping, etc. Drug-abuse is another social problem. In New York city, one out of forty citizens take the drug_heroin, which makes New York the “City of Heroin”. A study shows that the rate of heroin takers in New York city has increased 50 percent within

21、three years.,Racial Discrimination,The color problem is still inhuman today in America. When we say the color problem, we mean the problem with Asians, Puerto Ricans, the American Indians and the American Negros. However, this problem is mainly concerned with Negroes, because they are by far the big

22、gest group involved with these difficulties.,There are many forms of racial discrimination in the United States. Voting, education and employment are the most obvious aspects. For example, the right to vote is the first and the most obvious right of equal citizenship, but black people in general are

23、 still not provided with equal opportunities in America, especially in the south. Unemployment is a constant social problem in the American society. However, it is the most obvious for blacks, particularly for the young black people. The job opportunities for black youths are much fewer than those for whites. Al these factors have led to the great black movements in America, and in recent years, conditions for the blacks heve become a little bit better and improved. Today,
