4、ge 1-3 overview2008年11月24日15:15the silkworm 3800 is a 16-port fibre channel gigabit switch that supports link speeds up to 2 gbps. each port automatically negotiates to the highest common speed of all devices connected to the port. the ports are compatible with sfps (small form factor pluggable medi

5、a), are universal and self-configuring, and are capable of individually becoming an f_port (fabric enabled), fl_port (fabric loop enabled), or an e_port (expansion port). the silkworm 3800 includes the brocade fabric operating system?version 3.0, and is compatible with the entire brocade silkworm pr

6、oduct family. it can operate in a fabric containing multiple switches or as the only switch in a fabric. the silkworm 3800 is one rack unit in height, has an air-cooled chassis, and can be set up as a stand-alone unit or mounted in a 19-inch rack. the silkworm 3800 includes the following 1.16 optica

13、 or out-of-band by connecting to the ethernet port. the management functions allow the administrator to monitor fabric topology, port status, physical status, and other information to aid in system debugging and performance analysis. the switch automatically performs post (power on self-test diagnos

21、owing conditions are required to ensure successful and safe operation of the switch: 1.the supply circuit, line fusing, and wire size must conform to the electrical rating on the switch nameplate. 2.the ambient air temperature near the switch must not exceed 40 degrees celsius. this is particularly

22、important to verify if the switch is installed in a closed or multi-rack assembly. 3.the volume of air flow available to the switch must be at least 300 cubic feet per minute, and the front and rear air vents must not be blocked. 4.if the switch is to be installed in a rack: (1)the rack space must b

23、e 1u high, 19 inches wide, and 24 inches deep. (2)all equipment installed in the rack should have a reliable branch circuit ground connection. do not rely on a connection to a branch circuit, such as a power strip. (3)the additional weight of the switch should not unbalance the rack or exceed the ra

28、 procedure: (1)the silkworm 3800 (2)the power cable or cables provided with the silkworm 3800 (3)the rubber mounting feet provided with the silkworm 3800 to set up the switch as a stand-alone unit: 1. unpack the silkworm 3800, and verify all ordered items are present. 2. apply the rubber feet. (1)cl

29、ean the four depressions that are at each corner of the bottom of the switch to ensure they are free of dust. (2)place a rubber foot in each depression, with the adhesive side against the chassis, and press into place. 3.place the switch on a flat, sturdy surface. 4. provide power to the switch. (1)

30、connect the power cable to the silkworm 3800 power supply and to a power outlet. ensure the power cable is routed so that it is not exposed to stress. (2)turn on the power supply (flip the ac switch to “i”) when ready to supply power to the switch. the switch automatically runs post (power on self-t

32、he silkworm 3800 on page 2-6.installing the silkworm 3800 in an eia rack2008年11月24日15:17this procedure provides instructions for installing the silkworm 3800 in a rack that meets eia standards, using the silkworm rack mount kit, p/n xbr-000016. the following items are required to install the silkwor

33、m 3800 in a rack: 1.the silkworm 3800 2.the power cable or cables provided with the silkworm 3800 3.the silkworm rack mount kit, p/n xbr-000016 4.a #2 phillips screwdriver with torque capability all screws used in this procedure should be tightened to a torque of 25 inch-pounds. to install the switc

34、h in a rack: 1. unpack the silkworm 3800 and verify all items are present. 2. unpack the silkworm rack mount kit and verify all items are present (listed in table 2-1 on page 2-4). 3. separate the inner and outer slide rails (item 1). (1)slide open one of the slide rails until the lock engages. (2)d

35、epress the lock release lever and remove the inner rail from the outer rail. (3)repeat steps 3a - 3b for the other rail. (4)install the inner (smaller) slide rail on the chassis as shown in figure 2-1 on page 2-4. (1)position one of the inner rails with the flat side against the side of the switch a

36、nd the chamfered end of the rail closest to the rear of the switch, aligning the holes in the rail with the threaded holes in the side of the switch. (2)attach the inner rail using two of the following screws: item 6, screw, 8-32 x 3/16”, zinc. (3)repeat steps 4a - 4b for the second inner rail on th

37、e other side of the switch chassis. 5. optional step: if desired, install the right rack mount bracket and left rack mount bracket, items 2 and 3, on the switch chassis. these brackets are used to secure the switch to the rack. (1)position the right rack mount bracket at the right front corner of th

38、e switch, so that the two holes in the bracket align with the two threaded holes in the switch. (2)attach the bracket using two of the following screws: item 6, 8-32 x 3/16? zinc. (3)repeat steps 5a - 5b for the left rack mount bracket on the left front corner of the switch. (4)attach two of the fol

39、lowing brackets to each outer slide rail: item 4, rack mounting bracket, 3 hole. see figure 2-1 for bracket position. (1)position one of the rack mounting brackets at the end of one of the outer slides. (2)attach the bracket using two of the following screws, with the screw heads inside the slides:

40、item 9, screw, 8-32 x 3/8? zinc. (4)place one of each of the following items on the outer end of the screw, in the order listed: item 10, washer, flat, #8, item 11, washer, lock, #8 item 12, nut, hex, 8-32 (5)repeat steps 6a - 6c for the three remaining rail ends. 7.install the outer (larger) slides

41、 in the rack. (1)align one of the outer slides in the rack at the desired height, as shown in figure 2-1. (2)attach the slide using two of item 5, rack bar nut, 3 hole, and two of item 7, screw, 10-32 x 3/8? black. (3)repeat steps 7a - 7b for the other slide rail. 8. install the switch in the rack.

42、(1)position the switch in front of the rack and insert into the rack by sliding the inner slides on the switch into the outer slides on the rack. (2)check the alignment of the slides by sliding the switch in and out of the rack. any difficulty moving the switch indicates misalignment; if this occurs

43、, adjust the slide positions until the movement is smooth. 9. optional step: if the right rack mount bracket and left rack mount bracket were installed on the front corners of the switch, attach both brackets to the cabinet rack using two of item 7, screw, 10-32 x 3/8”, per bracket. the screws shoul

44、d pass through the front of each bracket and through the slide rail. 10. provide power to the switch. (1)connect the power cable to the silkworm 3800 power supply and to a power outlet. (2)turn on the power supply (flip the ac switch to “i”) when ready to supply power to the switch. the switch autom

45、atically runs post each time it is turned on. (3)if the silkworm 3800 includes a second power supply, repeat steps 10a - 10b for the remaining power supply. do not connect the switch to the network until the ip address is correctly set. for instructions on setting the ip address, see configuring and

46、 connecting the silkworm 3800 on page 2-6. configuring and connecting the silkworm 38002008年11月24日15:19this procedure provides instructions for configuring and connecting the silkworm 3800 for use in a network and fabric. the following items are required to configure and connect the silkworm 3800: (

47、1)the silkworm 3800 installed and connected to a power source (2)workstation that has a terminal emulator application (such as hyperterminal) (3)serial cable provided with the switch, for connecting the switch to the workstation (4)an unused ip address (5)ethernet cable for connecting the switch to

48、the workstation or to a network containing the workstation (6)sfps and cables, as required to connect the switch to the fabric to configure the silkworm 3800 and connect it to a fabric: 1. replace the factory ip address and related information with the ip information provided by your network adminis

49、trator. (1)remove the shipping plug from the serial port and insert the serial cable provided with the silkworm 3800. (2)connect the other end of the serial cable to an rs-232 serial port on the workstation. if no rs-232 serial port is available on the workstation, the adapter on the end of the seri

50、al cable can be removed to use the rj-45 connector to create a serial connection. (3)verify that the switch power is on and post is completed. (4)disable any serial communication programs running on the workstation. (5)open a terminal emulator application (such as hyperterminal on a pc, or term in a

51、 unix environment), and configure as follows: in a windows 95, 98, 2000, or nt environment: parameter value bits per second: 9600 databits: 8 parity: none stop bits: 1 flow control: none in a unix environment, enter the following string at the prompt: tip /dev/ttyb -9600 (6)from the terminal emulato
