Many years ago reporters and writers were _ing us of all the good things that were happening in the wo

5、rld. You could walk into a store and eventhough there was a war going on, we would read about the sol _r that left his family to fight for his country. Nowadays you walk into a store, read a book , or watch a T.V. show, and see all of the things that are happening in a very negative world. The media

6、 is creating a society that says that it is O.K. for a _n to wear earrings. That it is O.K. that _rijuana is being legalized, that it is O.K. for juveniles to break the law. Why does not the media show us a professional _le athlete that is also a family _n? Why doesnt the author of a book or a repor

7、ter of a newspaper _ us about all of the bad things that happen to drug users and pushers? Why do the T.V. shows _ juveniles that all they get for breaking the law is a slap on the hands? Society will be better off if the media would say, Hey children, professional athletes can be good parents! This

8、 would have a positive effect on the younger generation. The media should do a better job in trying to create a good, healthy enviro _ent instead of showing us all of the bad stuff in our society. The media should show all young people the awful things that happen in juvenile hall, but that would be

9、 an infringement on the residents of the hall. Where are the rights of the people that they did not treat right? Yes, the media is creating a bad influen _ in todays young people. But I believe that everything in the media can be overe and ignored. We need to raise our children right. Comments: This

13、 creating them as well. During the roaring twenties Americans found themselves in a struggle between the old ways of their an _stors and the new ways of the future. The on _ steadfast beliefs that men and women should not touch while dancing, and that la _s should not drink or _oke were suddenly bei

14、ng challenged. From where was all this rebellion stemming? Partly it was due to the returning doughboys from the shores of Europe bringing home revolutionary ideas they had encountered while at war. Noheless, returning sol _rs could not be held responsible for the social upheaval that America experi

15、en _d. There had to be another cause, and there was, the media. Although the films of the era were silent they spoke volumes to the society for which they were created. Women in these movies wore their hemlines a few inches shorter than the decade before them and they wore co _etics to aentuate thei

16、r new bobbed haircuts. The movies, as well as the books of that era, demonstrated a new _terialistic attitude that America had never before experien _d. Films portrayed every character as having the money to buy a new car, drink, _oke and partake in the leisures of life, a philosophy that was soon a

17、dopted by the youth of the decade. The use of the media in the twenties was to serve as a catalyst for the revolutionary ideas that were circulating. The films and books of that era sped America along its path of change that eventually led to the greatest social unrest that the United States had eve

18、r known. Unlike the twenties, the sixties and seventies utalized the media in a way that appealed to those searching for truth in a lost and confused world. Martin Luther King Jr. realized the impact of the media on society during his campaign for civil rights. King urged his followers to withstand

19、any abuse that they might encounter because the media will take their pea _fulness into the homes of their society. By doing so, King su _ssfully began to change the traditional view of ra _. Americans began to sympathize with the protesters because of the undeserved turmoil they fa _d at the hands

20、of the gover _ent. As a result, America relinquished the Jim Crow laws and saw _ny other groups press for their individual rights as well. Television cameras rolled as Cesar Chavez organized the migrant workers in California and as Bella Abzug and Gloria Steinham linked arms to protest the lack of w

21、omens rights. While the media helped to shape some attitudes about raci _ and gender it also helped to uncover the truth behind gover _ent lies. During the Nixon Comments: This is an outstanding response, even though it is not quite finished. The writers views on the issue are so cogent, well articu

22、lated, and well developed that the writer was not penalized for failing to provide a conclusion. 25、sic. Through music we can proclaim our love, municate feelings, and express new attiudes. Music is widely available to almost everyone in our society. To see how music has changed the values of our society, one needs only to look to the urban sprawl. Rap and gangsta styles of music reach millions of

26、 city teens and young _s. Its message is quite _- violen _, drugs, and _ . Young people are constantly bombarded with the message that if you want something all you have to do is to take it. The values of hu _n life, respect for elders and children have been lost. We have gangs and random killings i

27、n the streets of most cities in our country. Are these my values? They are most _rtainly not. This music does not reflect the values of this society. This music is the very core of this degradation of our values. How _ny tricked out gang cars to you see that dont have the annoying bass rumble of Rap

28、 music vibrating out of them? This music is part of the persona of a whole generation of people. It is just as much a part of their ego as the guns, drugs, and abuse of women. Another medium that is shaping the values of our society is advertising. Advertising is everywhere, on T.V., billboards, rad

29、io, even at the ballpark. Through advertising some vendors can create values. To illuminate my point I will use tobao panies as an example. Joe Camel has convin _d millions of young people that it is cool to _oke. The Marlboro _n has done the same. The au _n _ is always the same. These ads are targeting young people. They have created the value among children that it is ok for kids to _oke. Again the values of society have been changed by a powerful media.
