7、ial in class and use various illustrations to better explain the readings. at times, material needed to supplement the topic under discussion will be distributed in class. it is important that the student read all of the assigned material before coming to class, as lecture time will include a give a
8、nd take discussion between instructor and student.questions on topics not yet covered should be discussed with your instructor during office hours. during the first half of the semester there will be more lecture time than hands-on time. however, during the second half of the semester lectures will
9、get shorter and hands-on time and programming assignments will get longer.students that demonstrate outstanding ability will be given more challenging work from actual industry needs.i encourage you to visit me during my office hours to assist you and provide extra help.lab operations you will be gi
10、ven specific assignments to complete during open lab periods each week. all lab work must be handed in on time, during class time and under no circumstances handed in to anybody except me or my assistant. grading proceduremake sure you understand that i do not give grades. you will earn your grade i
11、n several different ways during the semester. you will have written exams and programmingassignments.gradeyour final grade will consist of:several tests and several programming assignmentsexample:test #1, score = 85 - assignment #1, score = 65test #2, score = 95 - assignment #2, score = 44test #3, s
12、core = 75 - assignment #3, score = 65test #4, score = 55 - assignment #4, score = 98in this case there are four tests and four assignments (a total of eight scores), since i drop the lowest score (44 in this example), the average is calculated based on the other seven scores, which is 77 and a lette
13、r grade of c.grade distributiona = 90 to 100c = 70 to 79b = 80 to 89d = 60 to 69f = 59 or lessstudents obligation and responsibility: you have made a decision to take a challenging and important course in the field of data processing and microcomputers. you should be prepared and ready to review and
14、 discuss assigned material at all times. dont wait to contact your instructor the day before an exam or assignment is due when you feel you do not fully understand the topics that have been covered. dont ask your instructor to do your work for you. you should have specific questions on assigned mate
15、rial when you discuss your concerns either in class or with your instructor by phone. dont make the mistake of saying i dont understand anything! that means you have not read the material or tried any of the assigned questions or exercises. you will also sign the attendance sheet each class meeting
16、and adhere to all the class policies and rules. instructors responsibility:as your instructor, i will attempt to always explain the assigned material to you the student. i will always attempt to cover as many questions and exercises in class as timewill allow. this means that we will always use the
17、full amount of time allocated for this class and at times more if possible. i will always attempt to answer your questions asif each one was the most important one in your studies. dont feel afraid that your concerns or questions sound or appear to be foolish. i will never test or quiz you on atopic
18、 until we have covered it in class.software copyright law.there will be no illegal copying of any software.due to the nature of the assignments in this course and the fact that magnetic disks can be easily duplicated, students found duplicating disks and/or programming assignments in an attempt to m
19、inimize work loads will face academic dishonesty charges through the dean of students office.rules and notes! attendance to class is extremely important, do not plan vacations or other activities during class time. i do not give makeup exams and/or programming assignments. do not be absent during an
20、 exam or the day an assignment is due. i drop the lowest test score or programming assignment score. all lab work must be handed in on time, during class time or as agreed upon and under no circumstances handed in to anybody except me or my assistant. i will not accept assignments that are placed un
21、der my office door or given to the office receptionist you must keep a working copy and a backup copy of your diskette at all times besides figs copy. a disk can go bad at any time and that would not be accepted as an excuse for not handing in your assignments on time. do not hand in a blank disk (o
22、r bad disk, or use any other similar excuse) thinking that i will accept the good disk at a later date. doing that would allow you more time to complete an assignment and definitely would not be fair to your classmates. dont even try it because it will count as a grade of zero. i will not accept a d
23、isk without a label. if you need to find a label at the time the assignment is due then the assignment is late. i encourage you to visit me during my office hours to assist you and provide extra help. if you are having difficulties with the class, see me immediately during my office hours, i will tr
24、y to help you. i definitely cannot help you at the end of the semester. make sure you understand that i do not give grades, you must earn your grade. i give you plenty of opportunities to earn your grade. do not ask me for extra credit, it would not be fair to the rest of your classmates. do not make-up excuses. che
