In his early childhood, his father began to drink heavily after his mother died and then he moved with his younger sister to live with his grandmother whose home is on the barks of the River Thames in the Berkshire village of Cookham in Southern England. He married Elspeth Thomson in 1899,but

3、 the marriage was not a happy one. They had only one child, a boy named Alastair whose nickname was “Mouse” born in blind in one eyes and plagued by health problems throughout his short life. He wrote this book and told these stories to his son before sleeping. He was rewarded by these stories and s
