2、 plan: includes all sectors uses every opportunity to disseminate messages has consistent objectives and messagescampaign planning process campaign planning was overseen by national technical advisory committee on hiv prevention achap funded the development of the national mcp campaign plan psi prov

3、ided technical support planning was based on available evidence about the extent, nature and drivers of mcp 46 key informant interviews conducted in 4 districts multi-stakeholder planning workshop held july 2008 campaign plan endorsed by tac in august 2008who was involved? naca, ministries of health

4、, education, labour and home affairs, local government and youth, sports and culture, achap, botusa, office of the ombudsman, radio botswana, university of botswana, botswana national youth council, men sector bonela, bonepwa, bocaip, botswana couples forum, botswana business coalition on aids, psi,

7、 hiv/aids botshabelo customary court, bcl mine, central transport organization, evangelical fellowship of botswanacan we ever change mcp? this is an important question to answer before we embark on the campaign some people doubt that mcp can ever change partner reduction has been achieved in other c

8、ountries, eg uganda, zimbabwe, and hiv infections in those countries reduced as a result behaviour change has happened in botswana with condoms over the last 10-15 years all the stakeholders who participated in planning this campaign did so because they believe that mcp can change in botswana howeve

9、r, to reduce mcp it will take involvement of all sectors and stakeholders messages that really mean something to the target audiences promotion of other hiv prevention methods such as condoms and male circumcision that complements / does not compete with promotion of partner reduction fundamental sh

10、ifts in societal norms about sexuality and gender relationswhat does campaign mean? the national mcp campaign is not a television spot that ends after a few months the national mcp campaign means integrating messages on mcp into every available channel (health services, education, churches, communit

11、y meetings, civil society projects, work-places, etc) using the media as a catalyst for individual reflection and for debate between friends, in couples, in families and in communitiescampaign objectives to reduce the number of new hiv infections to reduce the % of the population who are engaged in

12、multiple concurrent partnershipstarget groups the term mcp includes many different kinds of sexual partnership that different groups engage in for many different reasons by using existing services, activities and projects to disseminate messages, many different target groups can be reached however,

13、strategic priorities for the campaign are needed at the national level target groups strategic priorities young women engaged in mcp for material or personal gain men engaged in mcp for sexual variety cross generational sex between old men and young, vulnerable girls these priorities were chosen bas

14、ed on the size of the target populations the feasibility of behaviour changebranding a brand and central message have been developed for the campaign: messages early campaign messages will focus on increasing knowledge about how / why mcp increases hiv transmission increasing awareness about the ris

15、ks of mcp subsequently, the campaign will focus on the values and norms that cause people to engage mcp and create new values and norms that discourage mcp messages will change regularly to keep the campaign fresh and make sure the messages keep pace with target audiences changing attitudes differen

16、t messages will be created for different target audiences, for example: messages for young women will promote self-worth, dignity, long-term relationships and supportive friendships between young women messages for men will promote new concepts of masculinity, communication with your primary partner

17、 and attitudes that link sex with emotional commitment messages will address the costs of reducing partners eg loss of lifestyle or prestige with your peers and offer alternative benefits of reducing partnerscommunications channels simultaneous approaches are needed to communicate mcp messages: addi

18、ng mcp messages to existing communications using available discussion platforms to debate mcp and the drivers of mcp new, dedicated communications on mcp mcp messages and discussion will be integrated into existing communications in health and support services counselling education settings churches

19、 and faith based organizations workplaces kgotlas and community meetings social projects (eg life skills) media and entertainment dedicated mcp campaign messages will be communicated through inter-personal communications / peer education projects community theatre educational materials mass media sp

20、ots television, radio, billboards, newspapers inter-personal media (eg sms, till receipts)coordination the national technical advisory committee on hiv prevention is overseeing the campaign a campaign coordinating unit has been set up within naca and will work with ministry units and civil society o

21、rganizations to integrate mcp messages into services, projects, training and communications support dac offices to develop district campaign plans and obtain funding for mcp activities a lead technical agency (psi) has been selected to develop national materials and medialeadership the campaign will

22、 be led by naca sensitizing leaders at the national level, the district level and the community level is critical national, district and community leaders are vital advocates for the campaign to influence others to enable campaign messages to be communicated through the channels they control to enab

23、le debate about mcp and the factors that drive mcp in their institutions and communities campaign ambassadors will be engaged people who can take sensitization about mcp and the campaign to the highest levels in every sector campaign ambassadors and others will advocate for change on the societal fa

24、ctors that drive mcp the first job of the campaign coordinating unit is to sensitize leaders in every sector and at district and community level about mcp and the factors that drive mcp, as well as about the campaign at district level, district aids coordinators will lead the rollout of the campaign

25、research, monitoring & evaluation research will continue throughout the campaign to ensure it remains evidence-based monitoring will use existing national and district reporting mechanisms to collect data on the rollout of the campaign monitoring studies will measure the reach of the campaign an

26、d gather feedback from stakeholders and target audiences external mid-term and final evaluations of the campaign will measure its progress and impactwhat will success look like? girls having boyfriends of their own age and delaying sexual debut young women having one partner at a time and choosing p

27、artners for love rather than material gain it becoming normal for men to have only 1 partner older men not pressuring young girls for sex more open debate about sexuality, hiv and aids, mcp and drivers of mcp in families and communities male and female peer friendships that discourage mcp and support sticking to one partner at a time couples being able to discuss problemsget involved in the campaign! talk to people you can influence about how sticking to one partner can reduce hiv transmission make sure people
