、1. (118)The following appeared as part of an article in a business magazine."A recent study rating 300 male and female Mentian advertising executives according to the average number of hours they sleep per night showed an association between the amount of sleep the executives need and the succe
、ss of their firms. Of the advertising firms studied, those whose executives reported needing no more than 6 hours of sleep per night had higher profit margins and faster growth. These results suggest that if a business wants to prosper, it should hire only people who need less than 6 hours of sleep
、per night."Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted.1. 300 是否太少2. 是否是成功所以睡得少3. 广告也推广到所有4. 可行性
、, 如何知道In the argument, the arguer suggests that business should employ only people who need less than 6hours of sleep per night, if it wants to prosper. To strength the recommendation the arguer cites a recent study, which involves the advertising executives, suggesting that there is a connection be
、tween the sleep time and the performance of their firms. However, the recommendation relies on a series of unreliable assumptions, and is therefore unpersuasive as it stands. First and foremost, the arguer's recommendation rests on the assumption that the study of the association between the sle
、eping time of the executives and performances of their firms is statistically reliable. However, the arguer provides no evidence to bolster this assumption. The number of respondent, 300, might constitute an insufficiently small sample when compared to the large base of advertising executives. And t
、he sample might be unrepresentative of all such group. For example, it is possible that all these executives are from some famous firms in which overtime working are encouraged. Even if the study's respondents are representative of the entire advertising executives, the responses themselves may
、be inaccurate. The arguer ignores the possibility that the executives interviewed deliberately concealed their real sleeping time in order to overstate their super power and inexhaustibly energy. In short, without evidence of the study's reliability, it is impossible for us to convince the resul
、t of the study, let alone the rationality of the recommendation. Even if the consequences of the study can be trusted, the arguer cannot hasty assume that there is a cause and effect relationship between the average number of executives' sleep hours and the success of their firm. It may just be
、the opposite that it is the success of the firm and the busy work they should deal with everyday that lead to their insufficient sleeping time. The arguer must consider and eliminate this possibility, otherwise, we cannot accept the arguer's conclusion that less sleep time of the executives can
、lead to high achievement of the companies. Besides, Although it may be true that all the assumptions discussed above supports arguer's assertion that the well performance of advertising firms are due to their executives' less sleeping time, it is unfairly for arguer to assume that the experi

It is quite possible that other business, such as service industry, just need the executives to have enough sleep, and in good shape. In short, without taking into accou
、nt the different requirements among various businesses, it is unwarranted for the arguer to claim that the success experience in A Industry can be repeated elsewhere.Furthermore, the feasibility of the recommendation is open to doubt. The arguer simply assumes that the business can accurately acquir
、e the sleeping time of their employees. However, if the employers just make decision based on the information offered by applicants, the applicants might just provide an inaccurate sleep time to get their job. Thus in order to implement this recommendation, the arguer should provide a reasonable met
、hod to get their employees' sleep time. In sum, without concerning about these assumptions, the recommendation that only people who require less than 6 hours of sleep per night should be hired is unconvincing. To support the suggestion the arguer should figure out that it really is the less slee
