3、ry much by someone.If someone is the apple of your eye, you think he/she is very important to you, and you love him/her very much.This idiom is used especially when someone is loved by an older member of his/her family. Example: Erika is Marks only granddaughter, and shes the apple of his eye. Sarah

4、s only son was the apple of her eye.S2: Couch potato Meaning:A person who spends a lot of idle time sitting and watching televisionIf a person is a couch potato, he/she is not active and spends most of his/her time sitting and watching TV. He/she doesnt do anything productive.Example:School children

5、 dont play outside as much as before. Many of them are overweight couch potatoes.Dont be a couch potato! Youre just wasting your timeT: There is a new idiom: Mouse potato. 6、 to introduce some proverbs?S4: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.Meaning:You use this proverb to say it is better to accept something that you have or you can use now than to try to get something better that you might not be able to obtain. Sometimes people just say, A bird in the hand. I

7、f someone says, A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, he/she means that it is better to be satisfied with something you have than to risk losing it by trying to get something better you may not succeed in getting. Example:If I were you, Id accept the job. It might not be the best job for you,

8、 but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. S5: Dont cross your bridges before you come to them.Meaning:You use this proverb to tell someone not to worry about something until it actually happens.People often say I/We will cross that bridge when I/we come to it to mean they will not worry abou

9、t the particular possible problem until it actually appears.Example:A: Our proposal is ready, but what if the committee doesnt accept it?B: Dont cross your bridges before you come to them. We will see what happens then.A (woman): Ill introduce you to my parents tonight.B (the womans boyfriend): Okay

Well cross that bridge when we come to itS6: The early bird catches the worm.Meaning:This proverb is used to tell you to act early or right now to be successful.If someone says, The early bird catches the worm, he/she means that if you do something early

11、or before anyone else, you will have an advantage and be successful.Example:The early bird catches the worm! Dont miss this years best deal! The sale will start on Thursday, and the store opens at 5:00 a.m.Though you have more than 6 months before you leave, start looking for good deals on airline t

Charles Darwin studied and noted the similarities and differences of the flora and fauna. He concluded t

16、hat the species, to survive, would gradually alter based on environmental conditions.1859 After 20 years of his life gathering supporting evidence, Darwin published The Origin of the Species by Natural Selection.1892 Galapagos is officially names Archiplago de Coln in honor of Christopher Columbuss

17、discovery of American 400 years earlier.1959 100th Anniversary of the publication of Darwins Origin of Species, the Galapagos Islands became Ecuadors first National Park and the non-profit Charles Darwin Foundation was established to assist the in preservation of the islands. 1978 The Islands are de

Then deal with Ex 3. Read out the instru

28、ctions to the class and discuss the functions of the first two sentences as a class. Then students will work in pairs to complete the rest of sentences. Check the answers by having individuals read out the sentences and say if the sentence is expressing a general or a personal opinion.T: Please look

29、 at the sentences in blue in the text. Do they express a general opinion/ experience or the opinion/ experience of a particular person? Now lets read the first sentence together and think its function.Deal with Ex 4. Ask students to read the two sentences and compare the tenses. They can get the answer e
