TheThreeMonksOnceuponatime,therewasamountainwherestoodatemple.Andayoungmonklivedinthetemple.Everymorningthelittlemonkwentalonetothewellbelowthemountainandcarriedwaterbyhimself.Intheevening,theyoungmonksatinfrontoftheBuddhaandchantedtheBuddhistscriptures.Helivedacalmandfreelife.Oneday,atall,thinmonkcametothetemple.Whilehedrankupallthewateranddidnothaveevenadropleft,thelittlemonkwasquiteunhappy.Thelittlemonkwasquiteunhappy.Thelittlemonksaid,"Youhavefinishedupallthewater,soyoushouldgotogetwaterbelowthemountain."Thethinmonkthoughtthathewouldsuffer

lossesifhecarriedwateralone.Sohesaidwithasmile,"Iamnotstrongenoughtoliftapailofwater.Socouldyougowithmetogether?"Theyoungmonkhadtoagreewithhimreluctantly.Thetwomenhungthebucketinthemiddleofthepole,lifteditandwalkeduptothemountain.Neitherofthemintendedtodomore.Thiswentonforawhileandeverythingwasallright.Later,anothermonkcametothetemple.Hewasshortandstout.Hefoundthewtertankemptyandwantedtheothertwotocollectwater.Thetwomonksgotunhappyandneitherofthemwaswillingtodoit.Thefatmonkhadtogodowntothemountainandtooktwobucketsofwaterbyhimself.Andhedrankitupwithoutastop.Buttheothertwohadnothingtodrink.Thethreemonksquarrelledwitheachotherinthetemple,andeveryonerefusedtogetwater.Therefore,thewatertankwasemptyeveryday.Theyweresothirstythattheyfelltothegroundwith-outanystrengthleft.And

thetemplewasgraduallydeserted.Onenight,severalmiceinthetemplecameouttostealgrain,andtheyknockedeverythingonthetableupsidedown.Amouse

acidentallyknockedoverthecandlestick.

Sothecandleburnttheclothonthetable,andthetemplewasonfireatonce.Onfire!Putoutthefirequickly!"Thelittlemonkshoutedloudly.Andthethreemonksranfasttothewatertankinordertoputoutthefire.Buttherewasnowateratall.Theyweretotallystunnedandhadabsolutelynoidea.Theyloweredtheirheadsinshame.Thefirewasgettingbiggerandbigger.If

itwentonlikethis,thewholetemplewouldbeburntoutsoon.Fortunately,theywokeupjustintime.Theyrandownthehillwiththebasinsandbuckets,bringingbackwater

againandagain.Nobodyknewhowmanytimestheyhadgotwater,andtheymanagedtoputouttebigfireatlast.Atthattime,allofthemweresotiredthattheythrewthemselvestoteground.Buttheyfeltincrediblyrelaxed.Fromthenon,theydecidedtogetwateronebyone

everyday.
