Objectives:

Bytheendofthelesson,studentswillbeableto:

1.RecognizeandidentifyallthelettersoftheEnglishalphabet.

2.Pronouncethelettersofthealphabetcorrectly.

3.Spellsimplewordsusingthelettersofthealphabet.

4.Writethelettersofthealphabetinbothupperandlowercases.

Materials:

Alphabetchart,flashcards,worksheet,pencils,erasers.

Introduction:

Greetthestudentsandintroducethelessonbyshowingthemthealphabetchart.AskthemiftheyknowthelettersoftheEnglishalphabetandiftheycannameafewletters.Writedowntheletterstheymentionontheboard.

Presentation:

1.LettersRecognition-ShowtheflashcardsofthelettersoftheEnglishalphabetonebyoneandaskthestudentstoidentifythem.Tomakeitmoreinteresting,askthemtogiveawordthatstartswiththatletter.Repeattheprocessuntilallthelettershavebeencovered.

2.Pronunciation-Teachthestudentshowtopronounceeachlettercorrectly.Youcanuseasongorarhymetohelpthemrememberthesoundsoftheletters.Gothroughthelettersonebyoneandgetthestudentstorepeatthesoundsafteryou.

3.LetterFormation-Teachthestudentshowtowritethelettersofthealphabetinbothupperandlowercases.Demonstratethecorrectwayofwritingeachletterontheboardandgetthestudentstofollowalongontheirworksheet.

Practice:

1.LetterRecognition-Putthestudentsinpairsandgivethemasetofflashcardsofthelettersofthealphabet.Askthemtotaketurnsholdingupaflashcardandgettingtheirpartnertonametheletterandgiveawordthatstartswiththatletter.

2.Pronunciation-Playagameof"SaytheLetter".Calloutaletterandgetthestudentstosaythecorrectsound.Tomakeitmorechallenging,youcanaskthemtospellawordthatstartswiththatletter.

3.LetterFormation-Getthestudentstopracticewritingthelettersofthealphabetontheirworksheet.Walkaroundtheclassroomandgiveindividualfeedbackandguidanceasneeded.

Assessment:

Toassessthestudents'understandingofthelesson,givethemaworksheetwithpicturesofobjectsandaskthemtowritethenameofeachobjectusingthelettersofthealphabet.

Conclusion:

Reviewthelessonbyaskingthestudentstonamethelettersofthealphabet,thesoundstheymake,andhowtowritethem.Endthelessonwithafunactivity,suchassingingthealphabetsongorplayingagameof"AlphabetPictionary".

Presentation:

1.Playagameof"Alphabetrace"withtheclass.Explaintherulestothestudents:whenyousayaletter,thestudentshavetodrawtheletterontheboardasfastastheycan.Thestudentwhodrawstheletterthequickestgetsapoint.Playasmanyroundsasyoucanin10minutes.

2.Introduceflashcardswitheachletteranditscorrespondingword(e.g.AforApple,BforButterfly).Haveeachstudentcomeuptotheboard,pickaflashcardandsaytheletterandtheword.Iftheysayitcorrectly,theygetapoint.

3.Teachthepronunciationofeachletter.Usephoneticsymbolstohelpstudentsunderstandthecorrectsoundofeachletter.Provideexamplesofwordsthatstartwitheachlettersothatstudentscanpracticethepronunciation.

Practice:
