amafraidtobreathetheairbecauseIdon'tknowwhatchemicalsareinit.IusedtogofishinginVancouverwithmydaduntiljustafewyearsagowefoundthefishfullofcancers.Andnowwehearaboutanimalsandplantsgoingextincteveryday,vanishingforever.Inmylife,Ihavedreamedofseeingthegreatherdsofwildanimals,junglesandrainforestsfullofbirdsandbutterflies?butnowIwonderiftheywillevenexistformychildrentosee.Didyouhavetoworryof(about)thesethingswhenyouweremyage?Allthisishappeningbeforeoureyesandyetweactasifwehaveallthetimewewantandallthesolutions.I'monlyachildandIdonfthaveallthesolutions,butIwantyoutorealize,neitherdoyou!Youdon'tknowhowtofixtheholesinourozonelayer.Youdon'tknowhowtobringthesalmonbackupadeadstream.Youdon'tknowhowtobringbackananimalnowextinct.Andyoucan'tbringbacktheforeststhatoncegrewwherethereisnowadesert.Ifyoudon'tknowhowtofixit,pleasestopbreakingit!Hereyoumaybedelegatesofyourgovernments^businesspeople,organizers,reportersorpoliticians.Butreallyyouaremothersandfathers,sistersandbrothers,auntsanduncles—andallofyouaresomeone'schild.I'monlyachildyetIknowweareallpartofafamily,fivebillionstrong;infact,30millionspeciesstrong.Andbordersandgovernmentswillneverchangethat.I'monlyachild,yetIknowweareallinthistogether,andshouldactasonesingleworldtowardsonesinglegoal…Inmycountry,we(you)makesomuchwaste;webuyandthrowaway,buyandthrowaway...evenwhenwehavemorethanenough,weareafraidtoletgosomeofourwealth,weareafraidtoshare.InCanada,welivetheprivilegedlifewithplentyoffood,waterandshelter.Wehavewatches,bicycles,computersandtelevisionsets.TwodaysagohereinBrazil,wewereshockedwhenwespenttimewithsomechildrenlivingonthestreets.Onechildtoldus:"IwishIwasrichandifIwere,Iwouldgiveallthestreetchildrenfood,clothes^medicine,shelterandloveandaffection."Ifachildonthestreetwhohasnothingiswillingtoshare,whyarewewhohaveeverythingstillsogreedy?Ican'tstopthinkingthatthesearechildrenmyownage;thatitmakesatremendousdifferencewhereyouareborn;thatIcouldbeoneofthosechildrenlivinginthefavellasofRio.IcouldbeachildstarvinginSomalia,avictimofwarintheMiddleEastorabeggarinIndia.I'monlyachild,yetIknowifallthemoneyspentonwarwasspentonfindingenvironmentalanswers,endingpoverty,whatawonderfulplacethisearthwouldbe.Atschool,eveninkindergarten,youteachushowtobehaveintheworld.Youteachusnottofightwithothers,toworkthingsout,torespectothers,tocleanupourmess,nottohurtothercreatures,toshare(and)notbegreedy.Thenwhydoyougooutanddothethingsyoutellusnottodo?Donotforgetwhyyouareattendingtheseconferences^whoyouaredoingthisfor.Weareyourownchildren.Youaredecidingwhatkindofaworldwearegrowingupin.Parentsshouldbeabletocomforttheirchildrenbysaying"Everything'sgoingtobeallright,""It'snottheendoftheworld"and"wearedoingthebestwecan."ButIdon'tthinkyoucansaythattousanymore.Areweevenonyourlistofpriorities?Mydadalwayssays,Uyouarewhatyoudo,notwhatyousay."Well,whatyoudomakesmecryatnight.Yougrown-upssayyouloveus.ButIchallengeyou,please,makeyouractionsreflectyourwords.Thankyou.”完演讲者简介SevernCullis-Suzuki,瑟坟•卡莉丝•铃木,一九七九年生,现居加拿大。她是知名的科学家与环境保护者铃木大卫(DavidSuzuki)第二任妻子所生的小孩。她十岁时,便与朋友一同创立ECO(theEnvironmentalChildren'sOrganization)环保学习团体。一九九二年,瑟坟听说巴西里约热内卢将召开一项“决定自己的未来”的会议,她认为「小孩更应该去参加!」,於是自己存下旅费,参与了「地球环境高峰会」。由於瑟坟在NGO摊位上的强力呼吁,使她争取到机会,在高峰会上以「儿童代表」的身份发表演讲。她年仅十二岁,却发表了一篇让大人极度感动的演讲,「里约的传说演讲」因而在全世界广为流传。「地球环境高峰会」之后,在全球学校、企业、国际会议与集会争相邀请下展开活动的瑟坟,除了一九九三年获颁「全球500奖」(Global500)以外,并成为一九九七〜二一年间创立「联合国地球宪章」工作的青年代表。二二年,瑟坟於美国耶鲁大学毕业,同时创立了NGO「SKYFISHPROJECT」(以瑟坟最喜欢的湖来命
