ThethreesistersCharlotte,EmilyandAnnefirstpublishedtheirpoetryunderpseudonyms:PoemsbyCurrer.EllisandActionBellwasreleasedin1846,sellingonlyafewcopies.Thetwosisters,EmilyandCharlotte,hadalmostsimultaneouslywrittenwhatlaterbecameknownastwoofthegreatnovelsofEnglishLiterature.Charlotte’snovelJaneEyrewaspublishedin1847,shortlyafterEmily’sWutheringHeights.JaneEyrewasanimmediatesuccessandCharlottewentontopublishShirley(1848)andVillette(1853).Sheoutlivedhersisterbutstillwasonly38whenshediedduringpregnancy.3/24
