TheDepartmentofEconomicandSocialAffairsoftheUnitedNationsSecretariatisavitalinterfacebetweenglobalpoliciesintheeconomic,socialandenvironmentalspheresandnationalaction.TheDepartmentworksinthreemaininterlinkedareas:(i)itcompiles,generatesandanalysesawiderangeofeconomic,socialandenvironmentaldataandinformationonwhichStatesMembersoftheUnitedNationsdrawtoreviewcommonproblemsandtotakestockofpolicyoptions;(ii)itfacilitatesthenegotiationsofMemberStatesinmanyintergovernmentalbodiesonjointcourseofactiontoaddressongoingoremergingglobalchallenges;and(iii)itadvisesinterestedGovernmentsonthewaysandmeansoftranslatingpolicyframeworksdevelopedinUnitedNationsconferencesandsummitsintoprogrammesatthecountryleveland,throughtechnicalassistance,helpsbuildnationalcapacities.

KRILAisthecornerstoneoflocalautonomyanddecentralizationinKorea.Itcarriesoutresearchprojectsthatleadthelocalautonomousdevelopmentsuchaslocalautonomyandpolicy,revitalizationoflocaleconomyanddevelopmentoffutureregions.KRILAalsoprovidesalong-termviablevisionforlocalautonomyandautonomousdecentralizationandgeneroussupportforthemajorchallengesoflocaladministration.
