Thissectionexplainsindetailhowtochangeyourmotherboard’sfunctionsettingsthroughtheuseofswitchesand/orjumpers.

WARNING!ComputermotherboardsandexpansioncardscontainverydelicateIntegratedCircuit(IC)chips.Toprotectthemagainstdamagefromstaticelectric-ity,youshouldfollowsomeprecautionswheneveryouworkonyourcomputer.

1.Unplugyourcomputerwhenworkingontheinside.

2.Useagroundedwriststrapbeforehandlingcomputercomponents.Ifyoudonothaveone,touchbothofyourhandstoasafelygroundedobjectortoametalobject,suchasthepowersupplycase.

3.HoldcomponentsbytheedgesandtrynottotouchtheICchips,leadsorconnectors,orothercomponents.

4.Placecomponentsonagroundedantistaticpadoronthebagthatcamewiththecomponentwheneverthecomponentsareseparatedfromthesystem.

5.EnsurethattheATXpowersupplyisswitchedoffbeforeyoupluginorremovetheATXpowerconnectoronthemotherboard.

WARNING!Makesurethatyouunplugyourpowersupplywhenaddingorre-movingsystemcomponents.Failuretodosomaycauseseveredamagetoyourmotherboard,peripherals,and/orcomponents.TheonboardLEDwhenlitactsasareminderthatthesystemisinsuspendorsoft-offmodeandnotpoweredOFF.

ThisoptiontellstheclockgeneratorwhatfrequencytosendtotheCPU,SDRAM,andthechipset.ThisallowstheselectionoftheCPU’sExternalfrequency.TheCPUExternalFrequencymultipliedbytheFrequencyMultipleequalstheCPU’sInternalfrequency(theadvertisedCPUspeed).

IMPORTANT:

1.Fornormalfrequencies,100,103and105MHz,theJFjumpersmustbesetto[1-2].Forthepurposeofoverclocking,133MHzandabove,theJFjumpermustbesetto[2-3]andspeedadjustmentsmustbemadethroughBIOSusingJumperFreeModeanda133MHzcapacityprocessor.

2.TousethemanualDSW(SW1)switchesasshownbelow,theJENmustbesettoJumperMode:[1-2];(See1,p.18).

3.Otherwise,ifJumperFreeModeisenabled,allDSW(SW1)switchesmustbesettoOFFandtheJENjumpermustbesetto[2-3].(See#1ontheprevi-ouspage).Then,theBIOSsetupcanbeusedinplaceoftheseswitches(SetOperatingFrequencySettingtoUserDefineunder4.4AdvancedMenuinBIOSSetuptosettheCPUFrequency).

4.Ifprocessorsettingsabove133MHzarerequired,thenyoumustusea133MHzcapacityprocessor,JumperFreeModeandBIOStomakeadjustments.
