OurCrownPolymers’linesofepoxyfloorcoatingsareavailableinavarietyofformulations,allowingyoutochoosetherightepoxyforyourfloor.Thecolor,design,andversatilityofepoxymakeitapopularchoicefordecorativefloorcoatingneeds.Fromamosaic-likefloortoppingtobasicsolidcolorconcretecoatings.Ourepoxiesareexcellentformulti-coloredpatternsanddesignsbecausetheepoxyresinmatrixcanbepigmentedtoachieveanunlimitedspectrumofcolors.Itcanalsobecoloredwithaggregates,includingflakesofmarbleorgranite,recycledglass,motherofpearl,andvarioussyntheticmaterials.Virtuallyindestructible,CrownPolymers’formulations

makethemidealforcommercial,industrial,andinstitutionalfacilities,especiallywheredurability,longevity,andminimalmaintenance

HighHumidity

Humiditycangreatlyaffecttheoutcomeofyourcoatingsbothinperformanceandappearance.Relativehumidityoflessthan75%isideal.Ashumidityincreases;blushingordullingofthefinishcanhappenandcancreateuncuredspots.Itishighlyrecommendedtocoatyourfloorwhenrelativehumidityisexpectedtobebelow75%.Donotcoatifrainisintheforecastwithin8-12hoursbeforeandafterapplication.

DewPointTemperature

Thedewpointistemperatureequaltothetemperatureatwhichcondensationbeginstoform.Whencondensationforms,neverapplyanyCrownPolymersproducts.Nevercoatthefloorwithin5ºFofthedewpoint.

Alwaystakespecialcarewhenmovingthingsearlyafterthecoatinghasbeenapplied.Coatingsthatarefreshlyappliedaresoft,thisisconsidereddrytotouchbutnotcured.Damagetothecoatingssurfacesmayresultfromdraggingandscuffingobjectsacrossthecoatedfloor.24upto48(dependingonthecoatingsystem)hoursisrecommendedforlightdutytrafficafterplacementofthematerials.Fullcuremaytakeupto14days.

DamagedConcrete

Pittedand/orspalledconcretesurfacescanbeanindicationasoft/weakconcrete.Aminimumcompressionstrengthof3,000psiconcreteisrecommendedforepoxycoatingstobondproperly.Foraquickevaluation,theuseofareboundhammerisrecommended.Thistoolisusedtomeasurethedensityofconcrete

viacompressivestrength.Butthebestmethodistotakeacoreandsendittothelabforpropercompressivestrengthmeasurementordeterminationofanycontaminationthat

couldpotentiallyadverselyaffectthecoatingbondstrengthtotheconcretesubstrates.

SoftorChalkyConcrete

Notanidealsubstrate.Softconcretemustbegrounddownbeforecoating.Thiswillhelpsmoothoutthesurfacewhileremovingthesoftfinesfromthesurface.Usingascrewdriver,applypressureandtryto‘dig’atthesurface.Iftheconcreteflakes,scratches,loosensorotherwiseappearsdusty,doNOTcoattheflooruntilthisissueisresolved.

Contaminates

Iftheconcreteissuspectofcontaminationsuchassiliconefluidsealer,tiredressing(whichcancontainsilicone),orspottedoilfluid,aheavy-dutygrinderwillbeneededpriortothematerialinstallation.Ifthespottedoilismotoroilorgrease,aheavy-dutydegreaserisrequiredtoreduce

oilresiduefromcomingtothesurfacethatcanleadtodelamination.CarbidediamondgrinderheadsarerecommendedtoremovethesurfacelayertoasuitableCSP,specifiedconcretesurfaceprofile.

CleantheSurfaceofDebris

Aftertheconcretehasbeenadequatelyground,immediatelyvacuumtheentirefloortoremoveanyresidue,loosestones,grinddustorconcretedebris.Anyconcretedustlefttosettlebackonthesurfacewillpreventtheepoxyfromachievingproperadhesion.

Muriaticacidsolutionisoftennotrecommended.However,itcanbeusedtoneutralizethealkalinityoftheconcrete,whichwilllowerthepHtohelpensurethattheprimingmaterialacquiresproperadhesiontothesubstrate.Ifuncertain,apHtestcanhelpdetermineiftheslabdoeshavehighalkali.TheacidwashisNOTusedtocleanthesubstrate.Cleaning

isdonepriortotheacidwashusingagoodqualitydegreaserordetergent.DoNOTuseacommerciallyavailablecombinationacidetcher/degreaser.Theacidwashmustberinsedthoroughly.
