Thisdocumentappliestothereferencee-liquidstobeusedwhenanelectroniccigaretteissoldempty,withoutane-liquid,andwheretheproductinformationorinstructionsforusearenotspecificintermsofthecompositionalcharacteristicsofthee-liquidtobeusedwiththedevice.

4.1General

4.2.1Propyleneglycol(CAS:57-55-6),commonlytermed(PG),shallcomplywiththefollowingspecificrequirements:

-diethyleneglycol:notmorethan0,1%.

4.2.2Glycerol(CAS:56-81-5),commonlytermedvegetableglycerine(VG),shallcomplywiththefollowingspecificrequirements:

4.3Compositionofreferencee-liquids

4.3.1Toperformtests,therearetworeferencee-liquids(see4.3.2and4.3.3)andtheircompositionisdescribedin4.3.4.

4.3.2Areferencee-liquid,termed70/30,whichcontainspropyleneglycol(PG)(4.2.1)andglycerol(vegetableglycerine)(VG)(4.2.2)inaratioof7:3respectively.

4.3.3Areferencee-liquid,termed50/50,whichcontainspropyleneglycol(PG)(4.2.1)andglycerol(vegetableglycerine)(VG)(4.2.2)inaratioof1:1respectively.

4.3.4Thecompositionsofthereferencee-liquidsaredetailedinTable1.Massesareexpressedingper100g,andarenotcorrectedforpurityoftheparticularingredient.

4.4Storageofreferencee-liquids

Themaximumexpirydateofthereferencee-liquidsisdeterminedbytheearliestexpirydateofanindividualingredient.

Referencee-liquidsshallbestoredunderconditionsthatpreventalterationoftheircompositions.Itisrecommendedtostoreatatemperaturebetween5℃and25℃,awayfromlightsources,andinanairtight(preferablyglass)container.Priortouse,thereferencee-liquidsshallbebroughttoambientroomtemperature.

5Useofreferencee-liquids

5.1Selectionofreferencee-liquid

Electroniccigarettescomplyingwiththescopeofthisdocumentshallbetestedwithoneofthetworeferencee-liquidslistedinTable1.Themanufacturershalljustifythechoicemadebetweenthetworeferencee-liquids;asaguidelowpowerdeviceswouldbebettersuitedtousingthee-liquidwithPG/VG70/30ratio,andhighpowerdeviceswouldbebettersuitedtousingthee-liquidwiththePG/VG50/50ratio.Theproductinformationavailabletotheconsumershallindicatewhichreferencee-liquidwasusedfortheemissionstesting.

5.2Periodofuseafteropening

Referencee-liquidsshouldbeusedwithin24hafteropeningifstoredappropriately.

E-liquidsarehygroscopic.Exposingopenedcontainersofe-liquidstoambientatmospheremightchangetheircompositions,soexposureofthereferencee-liquidstoambientatmosphereshouldbeminimized.
