Introduction
ThisdocumentspecifiestestmethodsandperformancerequirementsforallelectricalequipmentusedforgasdetectioninrefrigerantapplicationsasdefinedinEN378-1:2016bymeansofconcentrationmeasurement.
Thisdocumentisaddressedtothemanufacturersofsuchequipmentandtestlaboratorieswhichvalidateit.Thetendencytouselow-GWPrefrigerantgasesintherefrigerationandHVACmarket(F-GasRegulation)hasintensifiedtheconsiderationsofsafetymeasuresforlow-GWPgasesassomeareflammable,toxicandcancauselackofoxygen.
Thisdocumentcoversallrefrigerantgasesanddefinesperformancerequirementsforthedetectionequipment,mentionedinEN378-3:2016asgasdetectorsorsensors,usedinrefrigerantapplications.Thelevelofsafetyisexpectedtobethesameasinthealreadyexistingperformancestandardsforgeneral-purposeequipment,i.e.EN60079-29-1concerningrefrigerantflammablegasesandEN45544seriesconcerningrefrigeranttoxicgasesinatmospheres.RefrigerantgasesnotmentionedbyEN378-1:2016are
alsocoveredbythisstandardfollowingthecategorizationschemeofEN378-1:2016.

1Scope
Thisdocumentspecifiesgeneralrequirementsfortheconstruction,testingandperformanceofelectricallyoperatedrefrigerantfixedgasdetectionequipmentinsafetyapplications.ThisdocumentdoesnotspecifyrequirementsforportablelocatingleakdetectorsforrefrigerantapplicationasalreadycoveredbyEN14624:2012.
Thisdocumentisapplicabletoequipmentwhoseprimarypurposeistoprovideanindication,alarmand/orotheroutputfunctiontowarnofthepresenceofrefrigerantgasesinanindustrialorcommercialenvironmentand,insomecases,toinitiateautomaticormanualprotectiveactions.Itisapplicabletoequipmentinwhichthesensorautomaticallygeneratesanelectricalsignalwhengasispresent.
Thisstandarddoesnotapplytogasdetectionequipment:
一fornon-refrigerantapplication;
一usedforairpollutionmonitoring;
一samplingsystems,whicharenotintegralpartofthegasdetectionequipment;

EquipmentshallfulfilthegeneralrequirementsofEN60079-29-1andthethresholdsspecifiedinEN378series.
