In2020,webecamethefirstglobaldatacentercompanyofourscaletocommittotheScience-BasedTargetsinitiative(SBTi),andin2025,were-baselinedourSBTi-approvedtargetsinlinewithfive-yearguidancetoreflectbusinessgrowthandevolvingdecarbonizationpathways.

Ourclimatetargetsaredesignedtodriveemissionsreductionswhilesupportingtheincreasingdemandfordigitalinfrastructure:

2025GHGEmissionInventoryandMethodology

DigitalRealtymaintainsacomprehensiveGHGinventorytomeasureandmanage

emissionsacrossitsglobaloperations

andvaluechain.TheinventoryispreparedinalignmentwiththeGreenhouseGas

ProtocolandincludesScope1,Scope2,andrelevantScope3emissions.

Asagrowingplatformsupporting

increasingdigitaldemand,absolute

emissionsmayfluctuateovertime.Our

focusremainsonimprovingemissions

efficiencyandexpandingcleanenergy

procurementtoreducethecarbonintensityofouroperationsandsupportlong-term

decarbonization.

ThisinventoryservesasthefoundationfortrackingprogressagainstourSBTi-approvedtargets,enablingconsistentmeasurementagainstourbaseyear

Cleanenergy

Energyisacriticalinputfortheoperationofdatacenters,

andsecuringreliable,clean,andcost-effectivesuppliesof

energyisatoppriority.Wesourceclean,emission-freeenergysuchaswind,solar,hydropower,biomass,andnuclear.Our

approachprioritizes,wherefeasible,net-newrenewable

energysourcedanddeliveredwithinthegridregionswhereourdatacentersarelocated.Weconsiderthecarbon-

reductionpotentialofprojectsaddedtotheregionalgridandseektosupportprojectsinmorecarbon-intensivegrids.

Since2016,wehavecontracted1.7GWofnewrenewable

energycapacity,alongwithcarbon-freeandrenewablesupplysolutionssupportingmanyofourglobalmetros.Wehave

deployedmorethantwodozenonsitesolarprojectsacross

eightcountriestocost-effectivelyanddirectlypowerour

datacentersandreducestrainonthegrid.Weareutilizing

hydrotreatedvegetableoil(HVO)renewabledieselasalow-

carbonalternativetotraditionaldieselfor18%ofourmanageddatacenters.

Wearealsoutilizingorplanningformorethan10wasteheatandgeoexchangesystemsthatimproveenergyperformanceinourdatacenterswhileprovidingwasteheattonearby

hospitals,homes,andcommercialbusinesses,supportingacirculareconomy.Oureffortshavebeendeliveringresults-we’veincreasedtheamountofheatourfacilitiesprovidetodistrictenergyprogramsby46%since2023.

Notably,ourPAR1facilityinAubervilliers,France,redirectsrecoveredwasteheattoresidentialbuildingsinthe

surroundingcommunity.

CarbonneutralinEurope

DigitalRealtycontinuestodemonstrateleadershipand

progresstowardClimateNeutralityforitsEuropeanportfolioinalignmentwiththeEU’slong-termcommitmentstotransitiontoalow-carboneconomy.Wearecommittedtomeetingourscience-basedtargetsandhavematchedresidualScope1-3emissionsinseveralcountrieswithinvestmentsinverified

climateprojects.

OhioRiverprojectsthatwillmodernizeexistinglock-and-dam

infrastructurewithoutbuildingnewdamsorharmingecosystems.

Withacombinedcapacityof68MWofaround-the-clockcapacity,

theseprojectswilldeliverlow-impact,reliableelectricitytosupportourcontinuedgrowthinVirginia.Wealsoreached100%cleanelectricity

coverageforourmanagedportfoliosinCanada,Singapore,andMelbournein2025.

InIllinois,wewereanearlyadopterofcleanenergy,matching11data

centerswithcost-effectivelocalsupplies.WehavecontinuedtodiversifyandexpandourcleanenergyportfoliointhestateviatheIllinoisShinescommunitysolarprogram.Bysupportinglocalsolarprojectsand

contractingfora13.4MWdcshareoftheinstalledcapacity,wesupportlocalenergy,jobs,andcommunityaccesstocost-effectivesolarpower.

In2025,weexecuted24/7hourlyrenewableenergymatchingagreementsinSweden,Greece,andatoneofourfacilitiesinFrance.Theprogram

allowsourdatacenters’electricitytobealigned,hourbyhour,with

renewablepowergeneration.Thisapproachgoesbeyondtraditional

annualmatching,providinggreatertransparencyandcontroloverthe

specificrenewablesourcespoweringouroperations.While24/7matchingisnotwidelyavailabletoday,DigitalRealtyissupportingthedevelopmentofcleaner,moretransparentenergymarketswhileensuringtheelectricityweuseismatchedwithcleanelectricityatthetimeitisconsumed.

Grid-flexibleAIinfrastructuretostrengthenlocalpowersystems

OnekeychallengeforAIgrowthintheU.S.ismeetingtherisingenergydemandsoflarge-scaleworkloadswhilemaintaininggridreliabilityandsustainability.Inthereportingyear,DigitalRealtyannouncedthedevelopmentofafirst-of-its-kindgrid-flexiblepowermanagementatournewNorthernVirginiafacility.Thisapproachintroducesareference

designandcertificationstandardforgrid-flexibleAIinfrastructure,helpingutilitiesmaximizeexistinggridcapacityandensuremorereliablepowerforallcustomers.

Grid-flexibleAIinfrastructureletsdatacentersadjustpoweruseinrealtimebasedongridconditions,electricitydemand,andrenewableenergyavailability,withoutcompromisingperformance.Unliketraditionalfacilitieswithsteadyenergyloads,thesedatacenterscanshiftorreduceusageduringpeakperiods,alignwithrenewable

energygeneration,andparticipateindemandresponseprograms.

Byenablingfaster,moreefficientgridconnections,flexibleAIfacilitiescanhelpmakethegridmorereliable,combatrisingutilitycosts,accelerateAIexpansion,andenablesustainability.

Advancingheatreuseindatacenters

AsamemberoftheEuropeanDataCentreAssociation(EUDCA),weareworkingwithEuroheat&Power,theOpenComputeProject(OCP),and

NetZeroDataCenterstodeveloppracticaltoolsandguidancetosupportscalingheatreusebetweendatacentersanddistrictheatingnetworks

acrossEurope.Aspartofthiswork,thegroupdevelopedacalculatorto

supportearlyfeasibilityassessments,providingpreliminarycapitaland

operatingcostestimatesbasedonearlydiscussionswithapotentialheat

offtaker,allowingoperatorsandheatnetworkpartnerstoquicklydeterminewhetheraprojecthasaviablepathforward.In2025,DigitalRealtyalsoledthedevelopmentoftheEnergyReuseMaturityModel,providingaframeworkforplanningheatreusewhendesigningfacilitiesorupdatingexistingsites.
