AlldataisforcommencingdomesticbachelorstudentsatTableA(public)universitiesonly.

DefinitionofAttritionRate:

Attritionrateistheproportionofstudentswhodidnotcompleteacourseandleftthefollowingyear.Theformaldefinitionis:Attritionrateforyear(x)istheproportionofstudentswhocommencedabachelorcourseinyear(x)whoneithercompletenorreturninyear(x+1).Forexample:

Eg.Attritionratefor2009=100xStudentsin2009whodidnotcompleteorreturnin2010

Attritionrateisbasedonamatchprocessusingthestudents'StudentID.Thisgivesa"crude"attritionrate,whichidentifiesstudentsthatneithercompleteacoursenorareretainedthefollowingyearatthesameinstitution.Studentswhoremainedatthesameinstitution,butchangedcoursearenotcountedintheattritiongroup.Itisonlythosestudentswhochangedinstitutionsthatarecountedasattrited.
