DepartmentofEducation

TodeliveraccessibleandqualityeducationtoallYukonlearnersincludingchildrenandadults.Thiswillbeachievedby:

•workingwithlearnersinmeaningfulpartnershipswithallotherusersofthepubliceducationsystemtopromoteandsupportlifelonglearning,andtoensurethatYukonhasaninclusiveandadaptivelabourmarket;and

•workinginco-operationwithparents,educators,andotherpartnerstodeveloplearners,totheextentoftheirabilities,sotheymaybecomeproductive,responsive,andself-reliantmembersofsocietywhileleadingpersonallyrewardinglivesinachangingworld.

EducationSupportServices

Toprovidedepartmentalbrancheswithleadershipanddecisionsupportservicesinfinance,humanresources,communications,informationtechnology,andpolicydevelopment.

Toprovideforfacilitymanagement,materielmanagement,andstudenttransportationservices.

PublicSchools

Tosupportthelife-longlearningprocess,includingtheacquisitionofknowledgeandthedevelopmentofskills,forallYukonschoolagechildreninaccordancewithSection4oftheEducationAct.

Toprovidetoolsandresourcestosupportcurriculumdelivery,includingenvironmental,experiential,andculturalprogramsandtheuseofdistributedlearning.

Toprovideforthedevelopmentoflocallyandculturallyrelevantcurriculumcontent,programmaterials,teachingmethodologies,andcoursesofstudy.

ToprovideandsupportFrenchandAboriginallanguageprogramsinYukonschools.

Toprovideassistanceandresourcestosupportschool-basedprogrammingforchildrenwithspecialneeds.

Tocontinuetosupportandexpandliteracy,numeracy,andSchoolGrowthPlansreflectingtheinterests,goals,aspirations,andparticipationofthecommunityanddesignedtoimprovestudentlearningandachievement.

Torespectandstrengthenourpartnershipsineducationthrougheffectiveconsultation,communication,andcollaboration.

Toensurethatparentsandstudentshavetheopportunitytobeactivepartnersintheeducationplanningprocess.

ToworkcloselywithSchoolCouncils,Boards,andCommitteestoensuretheskillsandresourcesareavailabletofurtherenhancetheYukonEducationsystem.

Tocooperatewithself-governingFirstNationstoimplementtherelevantobligationsoftheYukongovernmentunderthetermsofthelandclaimssettlements.

Tocontinuetosupportresponsiblemanagementofresources.

Toprovidesupportforprofessionaldevelopmentofstaff,consistentwithemergingneedsinYukonschoolsandcurrenteducationalresearch.

Toprovideforsafe,respectful,andcaringschoolenvironments.

AdvancedEducation

Topromoteandsupportadulttraining,post-secondaryeducation,andlabourforcedevelopment.

Tofacilitatepublicandprivatepost-secondaryeducationopportunitiesinYukon.

Todeveloplabourforceinitiatives,includinglabourmarketresearch,planning,andinformation.

Topromoteapprenticeship,skillstraining,andinter-provincialtradesstandards.

Toworkwithourkeypartnersandstakeholderstotrainlocalresidentsforcommunity-basedjobopportunities.

Toensureessentialskills,includingliteracy,aretreatedasprioritiesforworkplacesuccess.

ToprovideandadministerstudentfinancialassistanceandyouthemploymenttrainingopportunitiesforYukonstudents.

ToworkincollaborationwithFirstNationstoincreaseopportunitiesfortraining,participationinthelabourforce
