DepartmentofEducation

Topreparelearnersandworkerswiththeessentialskills,knowledge,andpersonalqualitiestheyneedfortheirlivesandcareers.TheDepartmentofEducationworkswithYukonFirstNationGovernments,partners,andcommunitiestodevelopanddeliverevidence-basedprogramsandinitiativesrelatedtoearlylearningandchildcare,publicschools,post-secondaryeducation,andthelabourmarket,consistentwiththeYukonEducationAct,ChildCareAct,andotherrelevantlegislation.

DeputyMinister'sOffice

Providesexecutivemanagementandstrategicdirectiontocentraladministrationandtheschools.

EducationSupportServices

Toprovidesupportservicesinfinance,humanresources,communications.

Communications

Engagesandbuildstrustamongthedepartmentandourpartnersineducation,includingparentsandstudents,thepublic,andthemedia.Thisincludesstrategiccommunicationsplanning,mediarelations,websitemanagement,issuemanagement,advertising,andpublications.

Finance

Supportsandmaintainsallofthedepartment'sfinancialresources,includingbudgeting,fiscalyear-endfinancialplanning,accounting,andriskmanagement.

HumanResources

Providessupportforcentraladministrationandschoolsinrecruitment,labourrelations,andrelocation.ThisincludesworkingwiththeYukonTeachers'Associationtoensurehiringpracticesarefair,transparent,andconsistentwithlegalrequirementsandtheneedsofthedepartment;andworkingonanongoingbasistorecruitandfillvacanciesinschoolstoensureconsistentservicelevelsforstudents.

SchoolsandStudentServices

TodelivereducationprogramstostudentsinKindergartentoGrade12.ThisincludesthestaffingandoperationofpublicschoolsinYukon,andservicesandlearningsupportsforstudents.

Tomanageschoolfacilitiesandstudenttransportationservicestoensurestudentsarelearninginsafeandmodernenvironments.

FacilitiesandTransportation

Responsibleforfacilitiesplanningandmaintenance,healthandsafety,studenttransportation,andWhitehorseschoolcustodialservices.

StudentSupportServices

SupportsthedeliveryofspecialeducationprogramsandlearningsupportservicesforYukonstudents,includingeducationpsychology,speechandlanguage,occupationaltherapy,andsocial/emotionalsupportservices.

TechnologyandStudentInformation

Managesthestudentinformationsystem,administersthedepartment'sprivacymanagementprogram,andisresponsibleforResourceServicesanddigitaltoolsandcontentforschools.

PolicyandPartnerships

Tostrategicallydesignandcoordinate,througheffectivepartnershipswithYukonFirstNationsandotherpartnersineducation,thestandards,procedures,andqualityassurancemeasuresrequiredforeffectivedeliveryofearlylearningandchildcareprogramming,Yukon'sK-12curriculum,post-secondary,apprenticeshipandtrainingprograms,studentfinancialassistance,andLabourMarketPrograms.

Toprovidestrategicadvice,systemanalytics,research,policy,resources,andtrainingtosupportdepartmentstaff,servicesproviders,partners,andstakeholdersintheeffectivedeliveryoftheseprograms.

CurriculumandAssessment

ProvidesK-12curriculum,resources,andprogramdeliverysupport.Supportseducatorswithclassroominstructionandstudentassessmentandevaluationtools.Evaluatescurriculumresourcesandstrategies,programs,andassessmentpracticestoensurebestresearchedpracticesareencouraged.Developsandcommunicatesrecommendations,policy,andproceduresrelatedtocurriculumandassessmentandcommunicatesthistotheSchoolsBranchforimplementationinschools.

DataandAnalytics

Supportsthedepartmentandeducationpartnersbyprovidingdataanalysis,forecasting,andreporting.

EarlyLearningandChildCare

Supportstheprovisionofhigh-qualityearlylearningopportunitiesforpre-schoolchildreninYukonaswellastheYukon'suniversalchildcareprogramtoensureYukonparentshaveaccesstohigh-quality,affordablechildcareservices.

FrenchPrograms

ProvidesK-12Frenchsecondlanguagecurriculum,assessment,andculturalsupport–FrenchImmersion,IntensiveFrench,CoreFrenchandOptionPluseducationprograms.

InformationandTechnologySupport

Supportsandmaintainsthedepartment'sinformationtechnologyinfrastructure(hardware,networks,systems,security).

LabourMarketPrograms

Deliverslabourmarketfundingprograms,includingtheLabourMarketDevelopmentAgreement,theWorkforceDevelopmentAgreement,andtheCommunityTrainingFundstosupporttrainingandenableYukonworkerstofindandmaintainemployment.

PolicyandPlanning

Overseespolicydevelopment,strategicplanning,andtheprovisionofstrategicadvicetothedepartmentatalllevels.Provideslegislativesupportservices,andisresponsibleformanagingthedepartment'srecordsprogram.

TrainingPrograms

Administersavarietyofprogramstosupportpost-secondaryeducation,includingtheYukonGrant,StudenttrainingAllowance,YukonExcellenceAwards;CanadaStudentLoansandGrants,StudentTrainingandEmploymentProgram(STEP)andtheYukonSummerJobsProgram.Administersprogramsforthetrainingandcertificationofapprentices.

FirstNationsInitiatives

Toadvisealldepartmentalunitsandschoolsontheachievementofreconciliationgoals.

TostrategicallyfosterandcoordinateeffectivepartnershipswithYukonFirstNationstosupportYukon-wideandcommunityspecificjointprioritiesandactions.

IncollaborationwithYukonFirstNations,developthestandardsandproceduresrequiredtoembedYukonFirstNationshistory,language,culture,andwaysofknowing,doingandbeingthroughoutYukon'sK-12curriculum,
