His family were farmers. In 1913, Wiley saw something that forever changed his life an airplane. Wiley Post began to study everything he could find about flying. Post finally took an airplane in 1919. After his first flight, Wiley Post knew that flying was something he could learn to do.Wiley Post began his career in flying, not as a pilot, but as a performer who jumps from airplanes using a parachute. He did this with a group that performed flying tricks to earn money.Wiley Post then decided the only way to become a good pilot was to buy an airplane of his own. He needed more money than he earned in the flying show. He went to work in the oilproducing areas of Texas. But he damaged his left eye in an accident. Doctors had to get rid of his eye. Judging distance is difficult without two eyes. Wiley Post began teaching himself to judge distance with only one eye. It took a long time, but he succeeded. In 1928, he got a job flying the plane that belonged to a rich oil producer from Oklahoma called F. C. Hall. In 1930, Post entered the National Air Races in this plane and won.On June 23, 1931, Post and Gatty had flown around the world. But many people said Gatty was the real hero.He had guided the flight. This hurt Post. Wiley Post began to plan another flight around the world. This time he would go alone.On July 15, 1933, Post took off from Floyd Bennett Field in New York. He became the first person to fly from New York to Berlin without stopping.语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文,简要介绍了飞行员威利波斯特的事迹。他凭着对飞行事业的热爱,克服了重重困难,最终实现了自己的梦想。1Which of the following was a turning point in Wiley Posts life?AHe saw an airplane in 1913.BHe lost his left eye in an accident.CHe got a job flying the plane in 1928.DHe became a performer who jumped from airplanes.解析:选A细节理解题。根据第一段的第三句可知,1913年他看见了一架飞机,这改变了他的一生,成了他生命中的一个转折点。2How long did it take Wiley Post from his first flight to his first competition?A6 years. While commenting on his _5_ (decide) to reply to the schools letter, Mr. Rossi asked why one of the schools own teachers was able to run the Boston Marathon last year and _6_ his absence was authorised or not.Mr. Rossi said he didnt like the tone of the schools letter, _7_ prompted his reply on his familys return to Philadelphia, while describing how the local education authoritys policy on absences makes people _8_ (disgust)Since his story _9_ (report) across the US and in many countries, Mr. Rossi has met up with school officials _10_ (discuss) their policy. He told People magazine: “It was a good meeting. It was not my intention. It is this policy that I dont agree with.”1following此处为现在分词短语作伴随状语。2for先行词为“fiveday trip”,此处是“介词关系代词”引导的定语从句,“his familys fiveday trip to Boston”是迈克罗西的儿女缺课的原因,所以空格处用介词for。3an不定冠词表泛指。unexcused的读音以元音音素开头,所以用冠词an。4possibly句中应该用副词修饰动词。5decision分析句子结构可知,空格处用名词,decide的名词形式为decision。6whether此处为迈克罗西先生质疑学校的老师去年去波士顿参加马拉松比赛是否得到授权。7which先行词为“the schools letter”,它在定语从句中作主语,所以用关系代词which引导非限制性定语从句。8disgusteddisgusted意为“厌恶的,反感的”,作make的宾语补足语。9was reportedsince引导的时间状语从句中用一般过去时;主语“his story”是动词report的承受者,所以用一般过去时的被动语态。10to discuss此处为不定式作目的状语。.短文改错Today, my friends and I had an early release day at school and got out of at about 11:30. We had decided try to add some occasional acts of kindness into our lives for Minga, that is a charity group. We bring sidewalk chalk to school and walked for half an hour from school into town writing nice messages on the sidewalk all a way. We came up with quite a few like “Smile, its sunny” “Peace” “Have a great day” but “Be happy”. It was so rewarded to see people smile when they saw it. And its exciting how so a small gesture can really make a different!答案:第一句:去掉of第二句:在decided后加to; thatwhich第三句:bringbrought; athe第四句:butand第五句:rewardedrewarding;
