Other parts of the face change shape as we get older, but ears do not change their shape. They only change in size. Reading peoples character from their ears is an old science. In very old times people thought that a person with big ears had a good and generous character. They thought that a person with pale, small ears was dangerous. They also thought that the shape of the ear showed if a person was musical. Today, too many people believe that the size and the shape of the ear help you know if a person is musical. Ears are all different, and each characteristic has a meaning. Next time when you look at a person, see if his ears are large, medium-size or small. Look at the lobes (the lowest part of the ear). Do they stick to the face? Ears that are always red mean a person may easily get angry, or he / she just has high blood pressure (高血压). Ears that are always cold and pale mean a person has a nervous character. And a big inside hole of the ear means a person is musical.【小题1】When a baby is born, . He drives carefully and can keep calm in time of danger. And he escaped from several accidents. The manager pays him more and the traffic policemen often speak highly of him. Mr Baker, one of his friends, works in a factory outside the city. Its far from his house and he has to go to work by bus. As the traffic is crowded in the morning, sometimes hes late for the work. His manager warns the young man that he will be sent away unless he gets to his office on time. He hopes to buy a car, but he hasnt enough money. He decides to buy an old one. He went to the flea (跳蚤) market and at last he chose a beautiful but cheap car. He said he wanted to have a trial (试验) drive, the seller agreed. He called Mr King and asked him to help him. Mr King examined the car at first and then drove it away. It was five in the morning and there were few cars in the street. At first he drove slowly and it worked well. Then he drove fast. And when he reached a crossing, the lights turned red. He tried to stop it, but he failed and nearly hit an old woman who was crossing the street. A policeman told him to stop, but the car went on until it hit a big tree by the road. “Didnt you hear me?” the policeman asked angrily. “Yes, I did, sir,” said Mr King, “Since it doesnt listen to me,can it obey you?” 根据以上短文内容,然后从每题所给的四个选项中选择最佳选项。 1. Mr King is paid more because he _. A. always drives very slowly B. is not afraid of danger C. had driven for years D. drives very well 2. Mr Baker went to the flea market to _. A. buy a second-hand car B. have a trial drive C. choose a new car D. sell his old car 3. Mr King tried to stop the car when _. A. he saw an old woman crossing the street B. he saw a big tree C. the traffic lights turned red D. the policeman shouted angrily at him 4. Which of the following is true? A. Mr King will be sent away if he keeps being late B. Mr Baker cant afford to buy an old car C. Mr King didnt hear the policeman D. Something was wrong with the car 答案与解析 1. 选D.由句子He drives carefully and can keep calm in time of danger. And he escaped from several accidents.可知,Mr King drives very well,因此老板付给了他更多的薪水。答案选D. 2. 选A.Mr Baker因为交通拥挤而经常迟到,受到老板的责骂,所以He hopes to buy a car. 但是他没有足够的钱,所以He decided to buy an old one,可见他去跳蚤市场是buy a second-hand car(想买一辆二手车),因此答案选A. 3. 选C.Mr King试车到了一个十字路口时,The light turned red,所以He tried to stop it,因此答案选C.4. 选D.Mr King在交警的警告下也没有停住车,最后撞到了树上,他的解释是:It doesnt listen to me(车不听我的话),可见车有问题,所以答案选D.第四篇(2019中考教育类选练)Having a teenager at home can be a real headache. Many teenagers smoke, drink and even fight. They often do something dangerous. Earlier studies have shown that teenagers are more likely (可能) to make irrational decisions than people from any other age group, including children and adults. Is it that teenagers are too young to tell right from wrong? Not really. So whats the reason? According to Laurence, a teacher from a US university, the reason is that teenagers care a lot about how their peers (同龄人) view themthat is “peer influence”. As children enter their teenage years, they spend more time with their friends and classmates, and also they care more about what they think of them. This makes teenagers make decisions without thinking about the costs. In a test, a group of teenagers were asked to play a video driving game. When they played with their friends watching around them, they took more chances and drove more carelessly because that would increase their possibility of winning. But when they played alone, they drove more safely. Why do peers have such a big influence on teens behavior? As Laurence sees it, a teenagers brain is like a car with a good accelerator (油门) but a weak brake (刹车). The “accelerator” is fully developed by teenage years while the “brake” is still not fully developed. When teenagers are watched by their peers, they usually push hard on the accelerator. With their weak brake, it is likely that they are going to end up in an accident. But the good news is that a violent (暴力的)teenager doesnt necessarily become a violent adult. About two-thirds to three-quarters of violent youth grow out of it. “They get more self-controlled.” 1. What does the underlined word “irrational” in the 2nd paragraph mean?A. Quick. B. Crazy. C. Careful. 2. Why are teenagers likely to make wrong decisions according to the text? A. They like difficult tasks.B. They dont care about costs.C. They care a lot about what their peers think of them.3. How does Laurence explain the influence of peer pressure on teens behavior? A. By comparing it with how a car works.B. By comparing it with an accident. C. By showing research findings.4. What can we learn from the text?A. Teenagers are easy to have traffic accidents.B. Peer influence is bad on teenagers.C. Most of the teenagers become less violent when they grow up.参考答案1B 2C 3A 4C第五篇(2019中考保健与健康类选练)Vegetables are good for our health. They give our bodies different kinds of vitamins and help us grow.
