We can only make _1_, of course, but we can be sure that he will be _2_ from what he is today. For man is slowly changing all the time. Let us take an obvious _3_. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches _4_. Five hundred years is a relatively short period of time, so we may imagine that man will _5_ to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. _6_, we still make use of only about 20% of the brains capacity. With time going on, _7_, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need _8_ ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change too: the _9_, in particular the forehead, will grow larger. Nowadays our eyes are in _10_ use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become _11_ and we have to wear glasses. _12_ over very long period of time it is likely that mans eyes will grow stronger. On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, _13_, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more _14_ because they are used a great deal in modern life. But what about hair? This will probably _15_ from the body altogether in course of time because it doesnt serve a useful purpose any longer. Perhaps all this gives the _16_ that future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be _17_. All the same, in spite of all these _18_, future man will still have a lot in common with us. _19_ will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions _20_ to our own.1A.pictures Bguesses Cexplanations Dideas答案:B根据only以及后面的“but . be sure . ”可知,此处表示的是“仅仅是做猜测”。故选B项。2A.equal Bsame Cobvious Ddifferent答案:Dbe different from “不同于”。 take an example “举例子”,是固定短语。故选A项。 6A.Even so BIf so CAfter all DIn time答案:A即使(even so)大量用大脑,我们也只用了它的容量的20%。if so “如果是这样”;after all “毕竟;终究”;in time “及时;最终”均不符合语境。故选A项。 故选A项。 10A.perfect Bconstant Cnormal Dunique答案:B由下句中的“we use them so much”可判断此处指我们的眼睛现在用得很频繁。 11A.stronger Bbigger Csmaller Dweaker答案:D根据“have to wear glasses”可知,视力越来越差。故选D项。12A.But BSo CThen DThough答案:A本句中的“stronger”与前面的“weaker”形成对照,故用but表转折。故选A项。13A.in other words Ball in all Cas a result Din addition答案:C我们很少用胳膊和腿,因此它们变得越来越弱了。less use与weaker构成因果关系,故用as a result “因此”。故选C项。14A.effective Boptimistic Cpainful Dsensitive答案:D根据下文的“a great deal”可知,我们的手指将会变得越来越灵敏(sensitive)。 故选A项。 故选A项。19A.He BThey CWe DIt答案:A由上下文可知,此句中用he代替上一句中的“future man”(未来的人类)。故选A项。 AIts 8 am, Tuesday, November 18, 2028, and you are headed for a business appointment 300 miles away. You step into your circle, twopassenger aircushion car, press a series of buttons and the national traffic computer notes your destination, figures out the current traffic situation and signals your car to slide out of the garage. Hands free, you sit back and begin to read the morning paperwhich is flashed on a flat TV screen over the cars dashboard. Tapping a button changes the page. The car speeds up to 150 mph in the citys countryside, then hits 250 mph in less builtup areas, driving over the smooth plastic road. You fly past a string of cities, many of them covered by the new domes (圆屋顶) that keep them evenly climatized year round. Traffic is heavy, typical, but theres no need to worry. The traffic computer, which sends and receives signals to and from all cars on the road between cities, keeps vehicles at least 50 yds apart. There hasnt been an accident since the system began.Suddenly your TV phone buzzes. A business partner wants a sketch of a new kind of impeller (叶轮) your firm is putting out for sports boats. You reach for your case and draw the diagram with a pencilthin infrared flashlight (红外线闪光灯) on what looks like a TV screen lining the back of the case. The diagram is sent to a similar screen in your partners office, 200 miles away. He presses a button and a fixed copy of the sketch rolls out of the machine. He wishes you good luck at the coming meeting and sings off.Ninety minutes after leaving your home, you slide beneath the dome of your destination city. Your car slows down and heads for an outercore office building where youll meet your colleagues. After you get out, the vehicle parks itself in a garage to await your return. Private cars arent allowed inside most city cores. Moving sidewalks and electrams (电车) carry the public from one location to another.1The traffic computer in your car can _.Akeep your car at a safe distance from other cars Bkeep your car at the same speed in different situationsCkeep your car receiving signals of TV programsDkeep your car driving avoiding heavy traffic答案:A细节理解题。 2Why are the cities covered by the new domes?ATo prevent people from being wet in the rain.BTo stop the climate of the cities changing violently all year.CTo protect the travelers against the strong sunshine. DTo make the city have the same weather all year. 根据第二段第二句中的“many of them covered by the new domes (圆屋顶) that keep them evenly climatized year round”可知,城市上空有圆屋顶的目的是保持城市的气候变化不剧烈,比较平稳。 3What will the city be like in the future?ANo accidents will happen because of heavy traffic.BThe sidewalk can move itself up and down.CThe road is built with the plastic material.DThe car parks itself on a dome to wait for your return. 从第二段第一句中的“driving over the smooth plastic road”可知,路是塑料建造的。故选C项。4The third paragraph mainly tells _.Ayou are lucky to sell products of your companyByou receive best wishes from your business partnerCyou can do business with a newly invented pencilDyou can do business even on the road in the future答案:D段落大意题。 BThe home of the future wont be completely different and we will be living in houses and flats just as we do today. But people will want to shape their homes to match their dreams. No two homes will be the same. People will be able to buy “house kits” containing a basic house structure, with movable walls, doors and windows. They will put together the different parts to create the home they want. Many jobs that we do today will disappear, others will still exist but will change and new jobs will be created. Skilled workers such as builders, gardeners and electricians (电工) wont disappear because machines cant replace them. Teachers will still exist because students need human contact. But they will be using modern technology in class more and students will be working more at home. The medical technology revolution and space travel will create new jobs which we can only imagine today. Space holidays will develop in the future, but these holidays wont be for everyone because they wont be cheap. Short space trips will develop first, then space hotels will orbit the earth where it will be possible to have a longer vacation. By the end of the next century, there will have been holiday centres on the moon with leisure facilities (休闲设施) for families.Paper wont exist in the future. Instead, there will be epaper which people will be able to use over and over again. This will develop in order to save natural resources. Enewspapers and emagazines will replace traditional newspapers and magazines and we will download information and news articles from the Internet every day onto our reusable paper. The laws of physics tell us that the earth is going to disappear some time in the future. This isnt going to happen tomorrow but scientists predict that it will happen in five billion years when our sun explodes (爆炸). We will have to explore the universe and find another home. At some point in the distant future, either we stay on the earth and die with it, or we leave and move to another planet, there wont be any other choice. 5Homes of the future will _.Abe completely di
