文档简介

Unit Eight,Job Hunting and Interview,Five minutes talk.,Warming-Up Questions,What are the advantages of job hunting interview? How to get the opportunity of job hunting interview?,Some Hints,1. We could answer this question from two aspects: the interviewer and the interviewee. For example, the interviewer can tell something about the job to the interviewee such as wages, the working time, the conditions and something else relevant to the job. Thus job interview is also a good chance for the interviewee, because he/she can impress the interviewer in person by good behavior. He/she can show both his/her ability and confidence, and then the interviewer can figure out whether he/she is the right person for the job. 2. The strategies in getting an opportunity of job hunting interview are important for young people. This question can be answered from three aspects. Firstly, they should make sure that they have the necessary qualifications and experiences needed for the vocant position. Secondly, they should research the company. The more they know about their potential employers, the better. Thirdly, theyd better keep close contact with their potential employers. For example, they can email or telephone to the company, inquiring whether their letters of application have reached, and expressing their earnest desire to get such a position.,Many trained interviewers have a trick question they always ask, which has no correct answer but lets you potentially damage yourself whichever way you respond. (1) The chairperson of an English department may ask a potential teacher, “How heavily do you count spelling errors when you grade an essay?” If the candidate regards spelling errors very minimally, he or she may be accused of having very low academic standards. On the other hand, if she candidate penalizes heavily for these errors, he or she may be accused of being out of touch with current approaches to teaching writing and with evaluation techniques. (2) If the interviewer asks you if you like to work overtime and you enthusiastically say “yes”, he or she may then smugly (沾沾自喜地) tell you that company policy prohibits employees from working overtime. If you hedge (回避) or say “no” the interviewer may say that the willingness to be flexible with overtime hours is a requirement of all employees.,(3) Try to spot the trick question so that you will not be trapped by it. Remember that one of your tasks at the interview is to gain some control of the flow of talk. Ask a question yourself: “I am certainly willing to do what overtime assignments are necessary for my position. How much overtime does most of your employees work each month?” If the interviewer asks, “ What was it about your last job that you most disliked,” see this as a trick question and sidestep it: “ Im not certain I really disliked anything about my last job. I just feel that I am now really for even more challenges and responsibilities.”,Part 1 Dialogues,Read and translate the dialogues in part 1.
