Characterization Techniques lDirect Characterization: author tells you something directly about a character l“Jim was a proud man.” lIndirect Characterization: author communicates something about a character without saying it directly. l5 different techniques Indirect Characterization Techniques lSpoken Words lJim said, “I really dont know what to do. I never seem to know what to do.” lPrivate Thoughts lJim pondered the meaning of life and his place in the universe. lActions lJim stomped through the halls, his fists clenched, bumping into kids along the way.
