general motors supplier development general procedure pre-production / pilot material shipping proceduregp-41.0scope this procedure applies to suppliers providing material to general motors which is used to verify manufacturing and assembly tooling and processes through the pre-production and pilot build of assemblies and/or vehicles. all material shipped shall be in accordance with the requirements of this procedure. included in this requirement are carryover parts not in current production at the assembly location conducting the pilot program.it is general motors corporate mandate that material used to verify manufacturing and assembly processes must be approved through the production part approval following the completion of an interim approval worksheet (gm form 1411).2.0identification tag the gm pilot material identification tags (gm form 1413, see appendix 1) can be ordered from the same source as other gm specific supplier procedures.2.1 documentation requiredif the part number is production part approved, a copy of the system/manually generated approval status report must be included. if the part number is interim approved, a copy of the interim approval worksheet (gm 1411) or the interim approval system generated status report must be included. in either instance, the documentation must be enclosed in an envelope and placed securely inside the container. see appendix 2.3.0part identificationall material being submitted for process approval programs must be identified with a green pilot material tag (gm 1413, see 2.0). on small parts where individual part identification is not practical, the general motors pilot material tag may be attached to the shipping container.3.1 closed containerswhen material for pilot or pre-production process verification programs is shipped in closed containers, each quality of a part number shall be packaged separately and the documentation form 2.1 should be enclosed in the container and the container identified with a gm pilot material identification tat. the supplier shall complete and attached a gag to each container shipped. the minimum package size used shall be 9 x 9 x 6 1/2.3.2 open containers when material for pilot or pre-production process verification programs is shipped in open containers, each piece shall be identified with a pilot material identification tag (gm 1413). the shipped to portion of the tag may be left blank when the container is addressed.if the part number is production part approved, a copy of the system/manually generated approval status report must be included. if the part number is interim approved, a copy of the interim approval worksheet (gm 1413) or the interim approval system generated status report must be included. in either instance, the documentation must be enclosed in a envelope and placed securely inside the container. see appendix 2.3.3 approved containerswhen material for pilot or pre-production process verification programs, is shipped to gm assembly plants, suppliers shall use regular production containers. this requirement applies to both gm designed returnable and supplier developed disposable containers that have been approved for production use.4.0discrepancy noticea problem reporting and resolution notice (pr/r) will be issued if the documentation from 2.1 is not received or is received incomplete with the material submitted for the pilot or pre-production process verification programs. problem reporting and resolution (pr/r) notices will also be issued when discrepancies exist on material which the supplier has identified as conforming.5.0general informationthis procedure first published november 1973, revised may 1980, june 1982, august 1983, january 1986, september 1986, april 1987, october 1993, february 1995, and november 1997.appendix 1pilot material shipping proceduregp-4ppap production approvalinterim approvalinterim worksheetcopy of the parts status documentation enclosed (see 2.1)inserted in containerprinted on green stockfrom part no.eng. chg. level & dateor other auth.quantitypack dategm pilot materialattention:gm plant no.addressenclosed envelope contains required gp-4 section 2.1 documentationgm 1413 rev. 10/93docksystem generated ppap approvalgeneral motors corporationpart number: 32198600supplier sample status notice -
