Unit 3 Life in the future. For many kids, the Internet is at their fingertips. From computers to smart phones,a web of information is open to them.According to a new report, about three out of four kids aged 12 to 15 connect the Internet using a mobile device from time to time. Many younger kids are online too.Julian Zeitlinger,9,from New Jersey, uses his computer to watch videos and play games. To keep him safe online, his parents monitor his web use and discuss Internet safety with him.“I ask my parents whether something is nice or bad,” Julian says.Mobile devices offer more ways than ever to share personal information. The information can be dangerous in the wrong hands.A study found that 62% of children aged 8 to 17 have had an unpleasant online experience.Have you ever had to enter a parents email address when signing up for a website? That safety measure is there because of the Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)The law says sites for kids under 13 cannot collect personal information, such as a phone number or full name, without a parents permission. This July, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will update COPPA for the first time since the law was created in 1998 when there were no smart phones.“The nature of the way kids get online has changed,” FTC lawyer Phyllis Marcus said. When the changes take effect,COPPA will apply to mobile devices and newer forms of advertising. It will expand what falls under “personal information” to include videos, photographs, and services that give users location.COPPA doesnt cover everything that can go wrong online. That is why kids and parents need to know what to look out for and to stop and think before sharing information online. “There is a misunderstanding that if a site is following COPPA,it is totally safe,” says privacy expert Shai Samet. He runs KidSAFE,which checks whether a site meets KidSAFE standards and is safe.“Its important that kids know how useful the Internet is but that it also can be dangerous if you are not careful.” he adds.1Julians parents check his web use to make sure_.Ahe doesnt watch too many videosBhe doesnt play computer gamesChe controls his online timeDhe stays safe on the Internet2Whats one of the changes with COPPA?AIt broadens the concept of person information.BIt prevents users from making their location public.CIt covers everything that goes wrong online.DIt says no to any kind of advertising.3People often hold the wrong idea that_.Aformal websites are always safeBthe Internet is becoming safer and saferCCOPPA can ensure their complete safetyDdaily checks prevent future online problems4Why does the author write the passage?ATo ask parents to look out for their kids.BTo talk about online safety for children.CTo introduce a new law.DTo sell an online product. To keep him safe online, his parents monitor his web use and discuss Internet safety with him. It will expand what falls under “personal information” to include videos, photographs, and services that give users location可知COPPA把隐私信息的范围拓展到多个方面。 3C解析:根据文章最后一段第一句话 “There is a misunderstanding that if a site is following COPPA,it is totally safe,” 可知人们总会误解COPPA是绝对安全的。 What is a big dream?_1_Or,is a big dream something that provides only entertainment?Children dream big dreams, but there are three barriers to realizing dreams. They often kill them before they ever have a chance to grow. The SelfImmediately following the birth of a big dream,a negative selftalk takes over and gives all the reasons why it cannot happen. This inside voice is the ego (自我)Its there for protecting and should be listened to._2_Most people are influenced by the inside voice.Thats why only a handful of people make their dream come true._3_Family and friends are a lot like the ego. They want to protect those they love,so they will often list all the reasons why the big dreams wont come true.Sometimes, family and friends destroy dreams of those they love most, out of their own fear of being left behind. The WorldIf one gets past the first two barriers, one has to face the world._4_In the past, big dreamers were locked up and sometimes even killed when they were shown to the world.Fortunately,in most of the world today, big dreamers just get laughed at.The way to realize a big dream is with confidence and action. When children have confidence and then take action, they will be ready to accept any failure. The truth is that every great dreamer whose dreams have never seen the light of success knows failure well._5_AFamily and FriendsBHow Big Dreams DieCDoes a big dream show ones future?DThey simply fail until they succeed.EIt is the last and the most terrible barrier.FSometimes it is right, but more often it is wrong.GAnd their big dream is to be a rock star or a famous artist. What is a big dream? Or,is a big dream something that provides only entertainment?
