Moreover, driving cars will probably make people sit all the time without any exercise. It will do harm to their health. Riding bicycles is much better. It is not practical for China to popularize family cars in the near future, especially in our big cities. There are a number of reasons why private cars are becoming popular in China. To start with, many people have become wealthy. They can afford to buy their own cars. Besides, with their improved living conditions, many people think that they should have more comfortable means of travelling. They are no longer satisfied with bicycles or motorcycles. Finally, new bank systems allow people to buy cars with loans. Thus, more and more people have cars. However, private cars have caused some problems in China. One problem is traffic jams. With so many cars being used, the streets have become very crowded. The number of accidents has increased. Another problem is air pollution. People are starting to complain of the waste gas given off by cars. Fortunately, local governments have become aware of these problems and are trying their best to solve them. AA good modern newspaper is an extraordinary piece of jumping from here to there, in and out, glancing at one piece, reading another article all the way through, reading just a few paragraphs of the text. A good modern newspaper offers a variety to attract many different readers, but for more than the reader is interested in. What brings this variety together in one place is its topicality(时事性), its immediate relation to what is happening in your world and your locality now. But immediacy and the speed of production that goes with it means also that much of what appears in a newspaper has no more than transient (短暂的) value. For all these reasons, not two people really read the same paper: what each person does is to put together, out of the pages of that days paper, his own selection and sequence, his own newspaper. For all these reasons, reading newspapers efficiently, which means getting what you want from them without missing things you need and without wasting time, demands skill and selfawareness as you modify and apply the techniques of reading.【文章大意】本文是一篇论述性说明文,主要讲述了一份好报纸的标准。21A modern newspaper is remarkable for all the following EXCEPT its _.A. wide coverage B. uniform styleC. speed in reporting news D. popularity解析:细节理解题。通读全文可知,文章讲到了一份好报纸的标准:全面性、时效性、通俗性。B项未提及。答案:B22According to the passage, the reason why no two people really read the same newspaper is that _.A. people scan for the news they are interested inB. different people prefer different newspapersC. people are rarely interested in the same kind of newsD. people have different views about what a good newspaper is解析:细节理解题。由文章倒数第二句中“. not two people really read the same paper: what each person does is to put together, out of the pages of that days paper, his own selection and sequence, his own newspaper.”可知。答案:A23It can be concluded from the passage that newspaper readers _.A. apply reading techniques skillfullyB. jump from one newspaper to anotherC. appreciate the variety of a newspaperD. usually read a newspaper selectively解析:推理判断题。由文章倒数第二句可知人们读报是有目的性、有选择性的。答案:D24Which can be a suitable title for the passage?A. Meanwhile, Ann went to the dollar store and bought some pet supplies, warning her two sons not to fall in love with the dog. At the time, Anns son Thomas was 10 years old, and Jack, who was recovering from a heart operation, was 21 years old. Four days later Ann was still looking after the dog, whom they had started to call Riley. When she arrived home from work, the dog threw itself against the screen door and barked madly at her. As soon as she opened the door, Riley dashed into the boys room where Ann found Jack suffering a heart attack. Riley ran over to Jack, but as soon as Ann bent over to help him the dog went silent. “If it hadnt come to get me, the doctor said Jack would have died,” Ann reported to a local newspaper. At this point, no one had called to claim the dog, so Ann decided to keep it. The next morning Tracy got a call. A man named Peter recognized his lost dog and called the number on the flier. Tracy started crying, and told him, “That dog saved my friends son. ” Peter drove to Anns house to pick up his dog, and saw Thomas and Jack crying in the window. In short, they are lost. Author and speaker Danny Cox, in his book Seize The Day, tells of a man who made a great success of his life in spite of many hardships. He didnt want to just sleepwalk through life, nor look back someday and feel regret. The moment that finally turned this mans life around was when he sat down and asked himself four important questions: What do I really want? What will it cost? Am I willing to pay the price? When is the best time to start paying the price? It occurs to me that one of these questions is the most difficult: What do I really want? We need to spend enough time deciding on the answer. But once we figure it out, the other questions will be easy. Answer these four questions and we will get clear on the direction we want to take our life. Devote ourselves to these answers and well make great time.【文章大意】我们每个人都希望自己能够成功,但是当真正去实现这个“成功”的时候,我们往往都会困惑:该怎么做呢?文章作者提出了四个问题,当这四个问题都有了答案并且你能为这些答案付出努力时,你离成功就不远了。33The author uses the first paragraph to _.
