文档简介

PROFESSIONAL REVIEW MEETINGSv Professional review meetings are an integral part of the induction programme and should take place each half term. There will, of course, be more frequent informal discussions that review the NQTs progress, but formal professional review meetings ensure that the NQT and induction tutor are able to dedicate time to thinking about the NQTs teaching in a focused way. These meetings have a central role in the NQTs development in that they not only look back at progress made, but also forward to future objectives and professional development provision. NQTs often refer to such discussions as being among the most valuable components of their induction experience. The role of professional review meetingsv Professional review meetings build on the discussions that follow lesson observations by: Drawing on evidence from different sources Identifying strengths and areas for further development Exploring, across the full range of the NQTs teaching, issues arising from specific points in the lesson(s) observed Looking at progress in relation to the Core Standards Identifying specific action to develop the NQTs teaching Considering medium and long term development, as well as short term goals Reviewing and revising objectives and action plans for the NQTs professional development Reviewing the NQTs support programme and ensuring that it matches the needs and priorities of the NQT as they change during the course of the induction periodv The outcomes of professional review meetings will in turn feed into the termly formal assessment meetings.Preparing for Professional Review Meetings: The Induction Tutorv In advance of the professional review meeting, induction tutors will find it helpful to collate and consider the evidence they have at hand relating to the NQTs progress towards the agreed objectives and the Core Standards.Sources of evidence include:- Lesson plans Assessment records, marked work and report Pupils work Notes from lesson observations and post-observation discussion Notes made by the NQT to support the work of teaching assistants Notes and evaluations made by the NQT, for example, from self review or INSET activities Observations of the NQTs interactions with parents and carersPreparing for professional review meetings: The NQT NQTs take up their first posts having developed skills in evaluating their teaching and professional development during their initial training. By continuing to practise and develop these skills during the induction period, NQTs will be able to contribute fully to formal professional review meetings and to gain maximum benefit from the opportunities that these discussions offer. In addition to evaluating their lessons, NQTs will wish to prepare for professional review meetings by taking a broader look at their professional development in their first post in the context of the Core Standards.Managing the professional review meetings At professional review meetings, one of the induction tutors roles is to help NQTs to analyse their own teaching and to understand how they themselves can make their practice more effective. This requires openness, honesty and trust. In the majority of cases, the relationship that is established between NQT and induction tutor will support this approach. However, induction tutors need to be sensitive to the fact that these meetings take place in an induction period that is being assessed and bear in mind that their outcome will often be making a contribution to the NQTs formal assessment. Induction tutors can help to dissipate any tensions that may arise from such circumstances by ensuring that the meeting is conducted in a spirit of professional collaboration and enquiry. Such an approach can help NQTs to gain a greater sense of control and responsibility in the discussion, and to propose next steps and solutions. It also helps the NQT and the induction tutor to maintain a focus on specific aspects of the NQTs teaching in relation to the core standards and to make good use of the evidence available to them. The agenda for each of these meetings is likely to be based on the NQTs objectives. One possibility would be to use Section C of the CEDP, as a way of structuring the meeting. However, the structure of each meeting will clearly be influenced by a variety of factors, such as the timing of the meeting; the NQTs progress against professional development objectives; and the evidence that is available. Professional review meetings differ from termly formal assessment meetings in that:- Assessment meetings look at the NQTs work across the full range of the core standards and result in a written summative assessment of the NQTs performance against the Standards.- Professional review meetings focus on the NQTs objectives that are helping them to meet the core standards, focusing in a greater depth on specific aspects of these objectives and the professional development that is planned to support the NQT in achieving them.Recording the meeting It is important that a written note is made of the professional review meetings and that both the NQT and the induction tutor keep a copy. This helps to make sure that everyone is clear about the key points discussed and the agreements that were reached. Such a record also helps the monitoring of any action to be taken and feeds into formal assessment meetings. Successes and achievements are recorded on this form as well as areas for further professional development. All the topics discussed, therefore, will not necessarily lead to objectives being set and action planned.RECORD OF PROFESSIONAL REVIEW MEETINGDates of Review MeetingsTerm 1Term 2Term 3Review 1: Review 2:Review 3:Review 4:Review 5:Review 6:The following sheets provide a structure for review meetings. At the first initial meeting of the NQT induction period the dates of review meetings should be agreed and written above.
