Disability Resource Center Expansion into CIRTITS Space RequestThursday, April 22, 2010ITS is requesting that the room in UNF Hall (53/1415) previously occupied by Marketing & Publications be allocated to ITS. The space will be used in the following manner:Tech Bench Area (work area);Spare parts inventory (hard drives, monitors, etc.) including ready to go replacement pcs in the event of complete hardware failures;Currency deployment/prep area (this is facilitated by the proximity to a loading dock in UNF Hall);New client testing - quality assurance testing area for new deployments (i.e. Windows 7);Future office space expansionA portion of these activities are currently being performed in 53/1425-9, also in UNF Hall, but that space is undersized and critically needed to remediate a developing fire code issue. The issue is that boxes of student records currently housed in the UNF Hall server room pose a fire hazard for that space, as the fire suppression system is not rated for the combustibility of that amount of flammable material. Additionally, some of the boxes are blocking access to both smoke detectors and some suppression outlets underneath the raised floor. Even absent the issue of suitability of the suppression system, the existing space in the server room does not allow adequate room to shift the boxes around to avoid blocking some portion of required open access to the raised floor. At the last fire inspection, the issue was pointed out by the fire marshal and reiterated by the fire suppression system servicing vendor, but not written up as a violation in order to allow us to remediate the issue prior to the next inspection. The remediation plan is to move the student records from the server room to 53/1425-9. The existing student records alone will fill approximately 90% of that space. The remainder of the space will be used to store a significant volume of printer paper stock, which has been removed from building 15 in order to prepare for the upcoming renovation.Space Committee MeetingSpace Request for Athletic Academic Support. The Athletics Department is requesting the review of available space for the continued development of the Athletic Academic Support Program. Currently, the program has one staff member located in Portable 857. The staff will be adding at least one, possibly two full time budgeted staff members prior to the start of the fall term. Athletics is looking for a space to accommodate three staff members, interns and a conference room in order to perform daily tasks as well as meet with prospective recruits and their families. As a NCAA Division I member, it is required that student-athletes receive Academic Support on our campus (Per ByLaw 16.3). By moving to the core of campus, and closer to the Academic Center for Excellence, the Athletic Department will be able to provide greater support for our student athletes; far above the support we have provided previously and more in line with other Division I members.By moving close to ACE, student-athletes and Athletic Academic Support would have additional opportunities concerning, but not limited to; ACE Tutoring Day and night time student-athlete study hall (monitored by Athletics) Study Skills workshops Classroom spaceIt would also provide additional opportunities for the continued growth of the student-athlete population by locating the Athletic Academic Support staff by such essential offices as: Personal Counseling Testing Services Career Services Professional Academic AdvisorsThis space acquisition would be a move for the foreseeable
