SCHOOL INITIATIVESCynllun Super Shell-by ProjectCynllun Super Shell-by Project provides a rolling programme of identification and intervention for pupils with speech and language concerns, within Nursery classes throughout the Caerffili County Borough. It also delivers an emotional literacy curriculum, The Little Turtle Curriculum, which includes a series of story- books written specifically to enhance self-esteem, improve attention skills and promote positive behaviour. Catch UpLiteracyStructured one-to-one intervention for learners who find reading difficult. Addresses all aspects of reading process: word recognition and language comprehension.NumeracyAddresses the core components of Numeracy: including counting, number comparison, tens and units, ordinal numbers, word problems, estimation, remembered facts and derived facts.PESS PE and School SportsThis is a Young People Funding agreement managed by the Sports Council for Wales. The project aims to raise standards in P.E. It makes sure that all schools: Manage subject effectively within whole school curriculum; Set challenging targets; Provide enough curriculum time to teach the requirements; Develop young peoples physical skills; Improve understanding of health and fitness; Establish Development Centre Partnerships ensuring they work together for identification and development of good practice in PE and School Sport.ECO SchoolsInternational initiative designed to encourage whole school action for the environment. Programme for promoting environmental awareness in a way that links to most, if not all curriculum subjects. Eco Schools focuses on the following themes: Litter; Waste minimisation; Energy; Water; Transport; Healthy Living; School Grounds and Global Citizenship.Eco Schools also work closely with Keep Wales Tidy.-2-Green Flag AwardNational standard for parks and green spaces. Sites are judged against eight criteria: A welcoming place; Healthy; Safe and Secure; Clean and well maintained; Sustainability; Conservation and Heritage; Community Involvement; Marketing; Management.Investors In PeopleInvestors In People standard is designed to help schools raise pupils achievements by giving all staff opportunities to realise their potential. It is designed to proactively impact the entire school community. It is helpful with problems that include physical, drug/alcohol, emotional and or familial. The SAP closes the gap students traditionally fall into when not qualifying for special education, yet needing some other service.Pupil Attitude to Self and School (P.A.S.S.)The questionnaire measures specific aspects of childrens attitudes towards themselves as learners and their attitudes towards school. Designed initially as an educational profiling tool meaning that it allows preventative early identification of pupils and schools “at risk”.Teachers can therefore use P.A.S.S. to inform timely and strategic intervention to reduce the negative impact of disaffection, low self-regard and related attitudes on attainment, attendance and other key educational performance indicators.Basic Skills Quality MarkThe Quality Mark is about recognising minimum standards in teaching Literacy and Numeracy. Attainment of this award is normally based on a close partnership between the Agency, Local Authority and Schools.Healthy Schools InitiativeThis is an initiative that promotes the link between good health, behaviour and achievement. It equips children and young people with the skills and knowledge to make informed health and life choices and to reach their full potential.Flying StartFlying Start plays in important role in helping parents and carers to support their childrens learning by taking education into the community.KerbcraftThe project, a key element in the Governments Road Safety Strategy, “Tomorrows Roads: Safer for Everyone supports selected Local Authorities in providing local training schemes, with priority being given to children in more deprived areas and those with higher accident rates.
