More than two thousand years ago the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle defined (定义) jokes as the pleasure that results from a feeling of triumph by showing were better than someone else in a certain way. According to Aristotle and many other philosophers, all jokes depend mainly on showing inferiority in another person or group of personsthat is, putting it clearly, on showing that they are worse off than ourselves. Jokes raise our good opinion of ourselves at someone elses expense.Showing how much better than other people we are is only one reason we like jokes. Someone may also use a joke to express their anger or their cruelty or any other kind of action that is not acceptable to us. We feel free to laugh when we hear about someone sliding on a banana skin. The joke lets us express those attitudes which are usually unacceptable to society. This is probably the reason why some of the jokes, especially those involving cruelty, are so popular with certain people.Besides, all jokes depend on our enjoyment of laughing at something that is strange and out of place because its different from things which are happening around it. The same situation can be either sad or pleasant, depending entirely on how strange and out of place it is. If a girl in a bathing suit falls into a swimming pool, we dont laugh because nothing unusual has happened. But if a man in a smart suit falls in, the situation is at once unusual in a pleasant way and we laugh. A good joketeller will always try to build up a situation in which one thing is expected until something unexpected suddenly happens, and so we laugh.【语篇解读】本文是说明文。到底是什么使人发笑?是笑话吗?不是,本文给出了答案。1The underlined word “inferiority” in Paragraph 1 means Asomething that is not as good as something elseBsomething that is better than something elseCsomeone that is not as good as someone elseDsomeone that is better than someone elseA词义猜测题。从第一段的“. that is,putting it clearly,on showing that they are worse off than ourselves.”可知A项正确。2According to Aristotle, all jokes depend mainly on Ashowing inferiority in another person or groupBresulting in a sense of successChaving a good opinion of other peopleDmaking people laugh unexpectedlyA细节理解题。从第一段的第三句话可知A项正确。3Whats the main idea of Paragraph 2?AShowing we are better than other people is the only one reason we like jokes.BWhen people are angry, they would like to hear jokes.CPeople who like jokes are usually cruel.DTo express those attitudes usually unacceptable to society is one of the reasons we like jokes.D段落大意题。从第二段的“The joke lets us express those attitudes which are usually unacceptable to society.”可知D项正确。4What will a good joketeller always try to do?AMake a sad situation into a pleasant one.BMake different things happen at the same time.CMake an unexpected thing happen in an expected situation.DMake people laugh at something unusual and out of place.C细节理解题。从最后一段的最后一句话可知C项正确。BHiphop culture covers many fields; it includes spoken words, breakdancing, beatmaking, painting, fashion, lively design, technology, and more. Hiphop is becoming the unofficial music in the education world, as more artists launch school programs, summer camps, and other activities connected city youth in the classroom through the beliefs of hiphop culture. Even more and more university teachers who once would have been strongly against hiphop have joined the crew. In the past two decades, hiphop culture, including hiphop education, has become a legitimate(合法的) field of study in universities and the subject of numerous books.Hiphop culture has influenced every piece of American and global culture because the culture is so prevalent. Teachers must be willing to engage in it if its part of the unique reality of their students lives. That way, teachers can truly be effective, reaching students in a meaningful, culturally connected way.Teachers might at first feel frightened by hiphop culture, an area in which they might not have previous knowledge or experience. But a lack of knowledge is actually a blessing; the best trained hiphop educators have been those that are at the beginning disconnected(分离的) from the culture. One of the biggest sayings in hiphop is “keep it real”. If a teacher comes to the classroom and says, “I dont know hiphop, but I recognize that its your culture and I want to learn,” the kids will teach the teacher, and then the students will be more willing to learn from that educator. Hiphop is about a respect for youth culture.【语篇解读】本文是一篇文化类短文阅读。文章主要讲述嘻哈文化越来越受到人们的欢迎并且大学老师开始接触并喜欢此文化。5Those who once most probably disagree with hiphop education are Amiddle school teachersBunofficial artistsCthe young living in citiesDuniversity teachersD细节理解题。根据文章第一段“Even more and more university teachers who once would have been strongly against hiphop have joined the crew.”可知,大学老师过去曾经强烈反对嘻哈。故选D。6The underlined word “prevalent” in Paragraph 2 most probably means Afamiliar B.similarCpopular D.regularC词义猜测题。根据文章第二段“Hiphop culture has influenced every piece of American and global culture because the culture is so prevalent.”(嘻哈文化影响了美国和全球的每一个文化,因为这种文化非常盛行。)可以猜测出,prevalent为“流行的”之意。故选C。7The author finds teachers lacking in hiphop culture might be beneficial because Astudents will frighten teachers at schoolB
