1 / 3 全国大学生英语演讲稿 facing this audience on the stage, i have the exciting feeling of participating in the march of history, for what we are facing today is more than amere competition or contest . it is an assembly of some off chinas m ost talent ed and mottivated peo ple, repre sentatives of a youn ger genera tion that are prepar ing themse lves for t he coming of a new c entury. im grat e ful that i ve been g iven this opportunit y, at such a histori c moment, to stand h ere as a s pokesman o f my gener ation and to take a serious lo ok back at the past 15 years, a crucial period for every one of us and for this nation as well. t hough it iis only wit hin my pow er to tell about my personal e xperience, and only a tiny fra gment of i t at that, it still represents , i believ e, the roo t of a spi rit which has been e ssential t o me and t o all the people bre d by the p ast 15 yea rs. in my element ary years, there was a little girl in th e class wh o worked v ery hard b ut somehow could nev er do sati sfactorily in her le ssons. the teache r asked mee to help h er, and it was obvio us that sh e expected a lot 2 / 3 fro m me. but as a young boy, rest less, thou ghtless, ii always tr ied to eva de her so as to get more time to enjoy m yself. one day be fore the f inal exam, she came up to me a nd said, c ould you p lease expl ain this t o me? i wa nt very mu ch to do b etter this time. i s tarted exp laining, a nd finishe d in a hur ry. preten ding not t o notice h er still c onfused ey es, i ran off quickl y. nat sur prisingly, she again did very badly in t he exam. a nd two mon ths later, at the be ginning of the new s emester, w ord came o f her deat h of blood cancer. n o one ever knew abou t the litt le task i failed to fulfill, b ut i could nt forgi v e myself. i simply c ouldnt f o rget her e yes, which seem to bbe asking, why didn t you do a little mor e to help me, when i t was so e asy for yo u? why did nt you u n derstand aa little beetter the t rust place d in you, so that i would not have to le ave this w orld in su ch pain an d regret? i was a bout eight or nine y ears old a t that tim e, but in a way it w as the ver y starting point of my life, f or i began to unders tand the w ord respon sibility a nd to lear n to alway s do my du ties faith fully and devotedly, for the i mplication s of that sacred wor d has dawn ed on 3 / 3 me: the mutual need and trust of p eople, thee co-operat ion and innter-relian ce which a re the verry foundati on of huma n society. later in my life , i contin ued to exp erience ma ny failure s. but nevver again d id i feel that regre t which st ruck me at the death of the gi rl, for it makes my heart sati sfied to t hink that i have alw ays done e verything in my powe r to fulfi ll my resp onsibiliti es as best i can. as i grew up, chang ed and imp roved by t his incide nt and manny other si milar ones , i began to perceiv e the chan ges taking place aro und me and to find tthat societ
